Who's wore out their 3rd Gen engine?

Since it's been three years since the 3rd Generation trucks have been out...

I have seen several hotshot drivers with over 200k on them without any issues... far from worn out.

I personally got 56k on mine.

Wore out... ... . Hmmm... . I only have 45K on my 10/2002 build 3rd Gen. With the price of fuel 50-75¢ / gallon higher than regular unleaded I may wear out before the mighty Cummins does. :{

Worn Out @ 200,000 miles???

Interesting thread!!!

The other night, I ran across a guy that is a Hot Shot driver with an '04, HO, Auto, Dually, that is completely stock, with 200,000 miles, on it.

He, admittedly, drives the HELL out of it. Often 85-90 mph with a fairly heavy load, on it. Has had it up to 110 mph.

He changes the oil at 15,000 intervals using "quick lube" facilities. He said they use 15-40 oil, usually Quaker State or Pennzoil & whatever filters those stores use.

The turbo on his truck recently blew-up & was replaced & now he is experiencing low power and a steady "haze" of smoke coming from the exhaust pipe, at all speeds.

His old truck ('97 Dodge/Cummins) lasted 779,000 before it was replaced by the '04. His opinion of the new truck is that it is more powerful but, not nearly as good from a longevity standpoint.

It would be interesting to know what is REALLY wrong with his engine.

He is getting rid of the truck & getting out of the Hot Shot business.

He, also, had some interesting things to say about the Powerstrokes & Duramaxes that are being used in the same manner that he was using his Dodge. They weren't holding up very well, at all.

I think the answer is at the beginning of your post: Continual high speeds, 15,000 mile intervals with cheap oil and filters. That ain't a good combination.

Brolaw has 24,000kms on his 03 dually,not broke in yet,he"s catching up to my second genner,Oh in about one month or so he should pass me,mine has 24,800kms,wants me to buy a 3rd genner soon to match him----,the way i'm going it maybe broke in for a future grandchild, PS-- i haven't bin blessed with any offspring yet. :-laf

150,911 miles, no issues at all. Fuel economy slowly improved up to 70k, steady ever since at just over 20 mph on back roads. Jeff
