I brought my truck to the dealer last week to repair the gear howl in my 11. 5" AAM and to install the C44 recall.
Nothing productive was done to address the gear howl and the recall hose was not installed properly. I've always dreaded having warranty work, and this experience only reinforces my fears. The following is a list of difficulties encountered:
» Dealer pulled the cover to look at the gears. They did not replace the gasket. Although the gasket is said to be reusable, the cover now seeps fluid. I tried to torque the bolts to specification without improvement.
»Dealer installed 75w-140 which is the wrong fluid, and the mechanic used two containers of friction modifier. Friction modifier is not needed for the 11. 5" AAM. When questioned, the mechanic said he used the wrong fluid because the correct fluid was not in stock and "it doesn't matter anyway. "
»The transmission hose was replaced and the connection at the cooler now drips. The ATF that leaked when the original line was pulled was not cleaned. This problem became apparent when a 12" line of ATF droplets was found on my garage floor. Further inspection revealed that the starter, engine crossmember, and fluid lines were covered in ATF. This is definitely a result of not cleaning the work area. Two puddles of ATF approximately 3" in diameter was found under the hood, in addition to the line of ATF dripped on the outside of the passenger side front fender. I satuarted a shop cloth just wiping up the ATF.
I really don't think my complaints are "nit-pickin" especially in light of the $41K purchase price just 900 miles ago. How should I handle this and who should I talk to about this situation? Talking to the salesman was of little value. This a five star dealer, which I geuss really doesn't mean much.
