Just out of curiosity I went to the Ford diesel forum page to read about the 6. 0 troubles. Man these guys are suffering! One guy mentions the fact that a Dodge was out of the question for him. Saying that and complaining about his 6. 0 was kind of funny to read. Cummins forever!

The Lemmings live by blind faith. I feel sorry for such hard headed people that they can't see the truth when it's staring them in the face. I traded my '94 Ford with 5spd/3. 55s for my first Dodge Cummins in '95. I've been hooked since. If I were so hard headed I wouldn't even give Dodge a chance, think of what I'd be missing. They just keep getting better and my '03 is the best truck I've owned yet. :D

I went into this diesel truck purchase with the thought I would more than likely end up owning a Ford. My dad has an 02 7. 3 that has been a great truck. After studying all the options, driving them all, and reading extensively on this site and others, you can see where I ended up.

I've got to say that after researching the 6. 0 PS, I don't see how it could even be an option for an informed, intelligent individual.

I came out of a 98 Quad Cab 5. 9 gasser that was a great pickup for 5 and a half years. I like the cab layout of my CTD. Four full doors with a wheelbase that can be turned around in less than a football field! Thats my main gripe with my dad's crew cab Ford. I'm already seeing better fuel economy with just 2700 miles on the Dodge. And it's definately a little stronger:p I'm sure happy with my choice, couldn't get better company either. I really do feel bad for those who spent upwards of 40 to 50 Grand to end up owning a truck they dread looking at! I hope Ford does them right and gets their act together.

And to think that Ford Wheeler magazine picked the new Ford over Dodge and GM:rolleyes: They must be in the same office as Trailer Life:D

it makes sense that they, being stupid biased truck testers, picked the furd and the reason i say that is because these same people could not even figure out how to turn the o/d on and off on the dodge. For this reason they gave it bad marks for not having a tow haul mode???? duhhhh it doesnt say tow haul it says o/d on off but that is what it is.

what i did like from that test is that in the quarter mile the dodge was #1, unloaded. :p

I have had excellent luck with my '99 Ford 7. 3 PSD. I was all ready to buy another until I heard about all of the 6. 0 troubles. I agree that anybody that does ANY amount of research would have to pass on the new Ford combo.

By the same token, there are hard headed CTD guys too..... come on, you know who you are. ;) Back in '99 I wouldn't have touched the Dodge. The front suspensions on the 4x4's were junk and the only way to get the powerful engine was with a six speed. That wasn't working for me so I bought the Ford and am glad I did.

Now that the front end has been updated, and hopefully cured, and I can get an HO automatic, here I am. The Dodge is clearly the way to go today. Who knows what tomorrow may bring. I am also wise enough to know that for "personal use" I like the Chevy the best. It has a more comfortable, better looking interior, and a sound system Ford and Dodge can't touch. It doesn't pull like the CTD but, you would be fooling yourself (that hardheaded thing) to dismiss it as not being a contender, based on peoples needs and wants.

I seen under the hood of the Ford 6. 0 just yesterday, and I can truly say, I certainly would not like to work on that beast! I swear Ford must have built the body around the engine!

As I do all of my maintenance, I do not like the V-8 configuration on either the Ford or the GM Diesels.

this is my 3rd Dodge, there is no question in my mind about the cummins compared to either the FXXD or GM things. But the rest of the vehicle is where I was/am impressed! I initially bought the dodge because of the cummins and expected second class or fit, finish etc. but all 3 trucks were above and beyond ford or gm, IMHO.

A few years ago my son bought a Ford agaisnt my recomendations. The truck was fine, never had any problems to speak about, recently he traded it for a dodge, and:-{} I ask him how the new truck, he says are you kidding, there is no comparrison this is great.

right on Dodge and cummins!!!!Oo.

Wife and I are looking to trade our 1999 Ram diesel. I am very open minded and we have driven them all. If you want to drag race; the 6 Liter F**d may make you happy. That thing is quick for a diesel or gas for that matter. Wife got in back seat of an extended cab F**d and she didn't even want me to drive it. Said she wouldn't have it. I know they have the crew cab but there gets to the point where a vehicle is just to long. The Duramax was ok but again to get 4 door it is just too long. There are positive and negative on each of the big three but taking everything in consideration; the Ram seems for me to be the best choice.

Of course everybody BUYS what they think is the best for them. My preaching about the virtues of the other brands is likely lost here but I still think blind devotion is rampant among each brand. I was at the in-laws this weekend. The guy next door is a concrete contractor and he has a new 6. 0L Ford. We were driving the wifes D-Max and he asked me how I liked it. I told him what I thought and asked if he had any problems with the Ford. He has issues and everybody he talks to does as well. I kept thinking to myself, "why did you buy it then?" He told me the mechanic for his company told him to buy Cummins, sheesh! what more do you need. Hard to feel bad for people like that.

You guys are also missing something about the tow/haul on the Allison, and I think the new Ford five speed is similar. First off, both are five speeds and Dodge is still a four. Second, tow haul is more than just and OD off switch. The allison downshifts through the gears, slowing the truck considerably without braking. It goes 5th to 4th at 50, 4th to 3rd at 40, and 3rd to 2nd at 30mph. It isn't an engine brake but it is a nice tool. After living with it for years I must say that I miss it on the new Dodges.

I don't know if I have "blind devotion" or not, because I sure have loved the CTD's that I have owned.

Many of my friends have the 7. 3 PowerStrokes and they have had really good luck with them, they really have been fine trucks. Ford is the most popular diesel around here and I would guess that the Duramax would come in third. There sure are a lot of Dodge Cummins around.

I MIGHT (sorry, just to empathize) have gone for the auto if it worked liked the Allison. I was disappointed in the diesel/automatics in both my 86 6. 9L Ford and the auto and 3. 55 gears were the only complaints that I had about 94 CTD. Right now the Dodge that I have is the only truck that I would consider for the needs that I have, that being for reliably towing my "beefy" fiver.

Dean,

Even without a fifth gear or tow/haul mode, I really like the way the "new" 48re performs behind the HO. For heavy towing it still works better than the five speeders from the competition. Both of mine have 3. 73 gears and they pull my heavy, wide loads, without complaint in top gear.
