2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission poor mileage on 01 4x4

My friends 01 4x4 only gets 9 mpg. He said filters are clean. Whats wrong?

That is off, I get 15 to 15. 5, that is a fair bit of city driving, winter fuel, and crappy ulsd. I used to get 17. 6 average till the new fuel. start with the basics, tire pressure, fluids (axles, transmission), alignment, etc. . if the motor seems to check out. Beyond that I am not sure. If so probably a boot is off and or he has a leak in one or the intercooler..... OR timming has slipped... ... .....

yep. . good point on the intercooler bit BUT this is a 24v w/vp44... the timing gear is keyed and timing advace is controlled by the pump.
