Hi to Group with first Post: I have 5500 miles on 2002 Auto/4x4 TD with 4:10 axles. Much to learn. I carry a 3000# Bigfoot camper and on a recent 3000 mile roundtrip to BC from Calif... I averaged 11. 9 MPG with the camper... previous 2000 local miles got me 14. 3 mpg w/out the camper. This seems quite low to me and I would appreciate input... . also, I appear to be experiencing the T/C hunting mentioned in the roundtable... the truck goes to the dealer in two days... any suggestions as what to tell them? I will be mentioning the APPS/TPS issues from the group..... Thanks... Paul

I've found with my 98. 5 3500 auto 4. 10 gear truck that if it is not running absolutly perfect, that it will do that trans hunt. Mainly in lock-up. But as far as your mileage goes, it depends on how fast you are halling that load. If I pull over about 65mph with the 4. 10 gears, my fuel mileage goes in the toilet.

But if you are pulling at a low speed and are experiencing this kind of fuel mileage, I would say that there is a definate engine running problem. Now there are several things that can go wrong, all of which can cause this problem. One of the first things is that your throttle position sensor can have a dirty connection. Some more common failures are, lift pump, crank shaft position sensor, dirty fuel filter, junk in fuel tank, dirty injectors, etc, etc. Although with the very low miles this one is going to be hard to trace. I didn't even know that you could get a cummins with that low of miles, I thought they all came with a minimum of 100,000 miles HA HA

better mile

yes you need to pull 10000 miles for brack in and if you do not pull a trailer then you will have to drive 20000 miles before brake in
