lately i have been getting 10-12mpg in the city, all I have is a #8 plate and a K&N filter. My mileage has gone from 17city to 10-12city help. can I move my plate or adjust the afc to get some mileage back. maybe I have the plate positioned wrong?

Often times this would be to cold weather (fuel, more idling, and lower cumbustion temps), but in northern Florida I don't think any of these are applicable.

When is the last time you changed your fuel and air filters?

Are your gauges reading the same boost and EGT's?

Have your checked your fuel pressure lately?

Just a start,

Ryan

Is there a lot of smoke? My mileage went down the tubes with a # 8 plate till I adjusted the "star wheel", got it back... Pre plate mileage 21 city/hwy. After plate 19. 5 city/hwy.

my fuel filter and air filter don't have that many miles on them, like 5k miles. I dont have a fuel pressure gauge but boost and egt have been normal. I have the Starwheel adjusted to where I get very little smoke(I can remember what the fuel mileage was with all the smoke... jeeesh),I wonder if being a 4x4 and club cab long bed is cutting into my mileage?I have 305/70/16 Goodyears on the truck I guess I could figure the mileage is off a little due to the larger tires. I have been playing around a little but not much pretty much just plain old city driving. It is just that I WAS getting 16 -18 before the plate and the tire change and I am not sure what to try first.

I don't have any sugjestions for you on this one but some one will figure it out so stay with it, I doubt the plate change did it unless something is screwed bad cause mine hasn't changed except got a little better(see sig) Joe George, Joe Donelly or soemone with that type of exsperience will chime in today(thurs. ) When I changed to my #8 my mileage only dropped 1mpg for a bit(my foot) so if yours has gone that bad then it seems that it would have to be pouring fuel out somewhere.

when I pu the plate in I replaced it exactly where tha stock plate was athen a few days later I moved it just a hair forward to see if power would increase (tell you the truth the power did not WOW me with this plate like everybody raves about)I also moved the afc housing just a hair and adjusted the starwheel for minimal smoke. She has a ton more bottom off the line quickness and when the tc locks up she moves faster. It seems acceleration is hindered by the transmission slushing and doing its thing from 1st to third. But I followed the directions on th plate install and I am pretty mechanically inclined(I have a toyota prerunner I have built from the ground up)maybe it is ajust an adjustment issue, what about the arm that rides under the plate that the Piers web page talks about needing to be adjusted properly?maybe I have the plate slid forward too faR or not far enough

You first need to figure out what your mileage really is. Different size tires will changes things. Check your real mileage with some milemakers on the highway or other means to find out how much you are off.

My truck is like yours except for my five speed. Last week I put in a #8 plate and decided to fill up after a couple days of hot rodding, so I could get back to normal driving and then check my fuel. It was only down 1/2 tank, and my mileage went up to 19. 8 on that fuel that I was hot rodding with. Its usually about 18 mpg before the plate.

2 ideas...

First, as it was pointed out above, your math is faulty because of your tire size. You are actually getting much better mileage than you think! Second idea is the cat. Not sure how many miles on your truck but the cats do plug up and make things very in-efficient.
