Got close to 200,000 miles now. Maybe I've not got something set just right because it just doesn't get up and go. It'll sure smoke initially and run extremely high egt... unloaded. It's sluggish and my mileage is down to about 16 on a good day when I used to get around 20. Performance has been slowly going south. Got to be something going on here. I'm thinking the pump is just wore out and the injectors are bad. I live just west of Charlotte, NC and it's hard to find anyone out east here that know's much about diesels.

I was thinking about a new pump and a set of Lucas "old blue" injecters. Any suggestions or recommendations on places for service?

While the life of the pumps is somewhat variable, as a rule, I would not condemn the pump as being worn out. They tend to have other things happen, like, catastrophic failure, or suddenly low power and no smoke, or leaks, or other serious symptoms. What you describe doesn't sound like a pump. Besides, they are often good for 200, 300, 400,000 miles quite often.

What you describe sounds a lot like restricted fuel flow... you know, plugged fuel filter kinda stuff. If you have two tanks, a bad tank swith restricting the fuel flow. Or, a sock in the tank that's bad. Or, even a bad supply pump that's blocking fuel flow or letting air in under vaccuum.

You have the right number of miles to benefit from some injectors. Unless you want to smoke, I'd suggest you go with PW injectors. But, until you solve the present problem, that's not the answer.
