while rebuilding my motor, i decided to buy new rod bolts since the motor has about 300,000+ miles. I went to my local dodge dealer and bought new bolts. when i started to torque them there were 3 that wouldnt torque. I pulled them out and they had stretched about 3/16". has anyone else had this problem?

Might want to have your torque wrench calibrated? I had similar problems at my job (wrenching) a few years back and it turned out to be my TQ wrench was outta whack, food for thought.

This is off topic but thought I'd mention this. 300,000 miles is a broken in engine. Lot's of life yet. I'm assuming that the engine was operated with no oil pressure for some time?

If that happened to me I would remove and return ALL of the bolts and go to a different dealer in a different area and get new ones. Or make 100% sure the new bolts from this dealer come from a different lot if they can find that out.

Or re-use the old bolts.

As an engineer it is understandable that poor quality bolts can get out there... . they may have missed the heat treat operation, or were treated improperly. It's possible that a large group of them may be suspect.

I've dealt with similar situations several times in my job.

no the engine was shut down in time and we have found NO damage whatsoever- havent even found any parts that are suspect EXCEPT the oil pressure bypass spring and plunger by the oil filter
