I've been getting pop up ads for Visa and Bonsai board. Doesn't always happen but happens even when TDR is the only site I visit, no home page even. Tell me it isn't so. Where else could they come from?

get it, kill it....

I can not stand pop up ads. Therefore I went to download.com and got "Pop Up Killer". Great program, just got to makesure it doesn't close some that you ment to open.

They're definately not coming from the TDR site. Could be a cookie of some sort on your system that you got from a different site. You could try erasing all the cookies from your system and see if it goes away.

No, I haven't knowingly installed any scumware. Only thing I can figure is that they hitchhiked in on a installation CD for a new mouse. Like I said the popups don't always appear on every visit to TDR. They load in the background, I don't even know they are there unless I popup my tool bar. The Bonsai ad is full screen and takes a while to load, slowing down what I really want to do. Thanks for the link, better place to start is here http://scumware.com/ for info on how this outrage works. WOW

go here and download there Ad-Aware program. it's free, there is a version with more bells if you pay. .

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

also download their refupdate program too. .

it will download updates for the datebase of spyware and crap software.

Found out about Ad-adware here on TDR,,,been using it works great. They just released the update program. .

Only thing you must remember todo with the refupdate program is go to the configuration menu and point the software to the same place that Ad-Aware is pointed to for it's database file of bad programs to look for.

Popup can come from another source thats not spyware . . there's a program call BHO Cop. . it's at

http://www.zdnet.com/downloads/stories/info/0,,77432,.html

it will detect the source in your registry and allow you to get ride of it. .

Lavasoft also has a registry cleaner that can help with this problem too.

All good honest software.

Lavasoft has a good support message board too.

good luck
