I was hooking up my trailer brake this afternoon and once I get the pig tail wired to the trailer brake and plug it in the 40 amp fuse pops... Does anyone know what each wire on the pigtail is? Maybe I have something backwards... . Thanks for any info!

if you are using the pigtail that dodge supplies with the new trucks to plug in under the dash, it should be one + power, one - power, one brake light power and one to feed power to the trailer brakes itself... what fuse did u blow? did you have to hit the brake to blow the fuse or did u just plug it in? Sorry i don't remember what the color codes are right now...

Same blown fuse

I have had the same problem. Blowed out a $4. 50 fuse. It didn't do it right off. Or I don't think it did. But I went to the Auto Zone and they said that a lot of Dodges blow that fuse. And that they didn't know where to find them. I did find them, but not at a recognize parts store. I used the pigtail that came with the truck.

Is blowing fuse with or without the trailer

Hi

I wired several trailer including non standard plugs to match my mates trailer.

Are you confirming the rear Dodge plug points prior to wiring to the trailer,

Hook them up one at time to the trailer and confirm each,

Best, is left turn signal

right turn signal,

then check for brake lights same ciruits,

then the lights,

the center hot on some for the brake power be careful.

Are you using an after market trailer brake controller? I had to move the one that came with my truck, and foolish me, it was not idiot proof, and I plugged everything back in wrong. In my case, Black went to White, Red went to Black. Go figure. Blew the fuse as soon as I stepped on the brake pedal. If you are using one, I would double check that it is all plugged in correctly under the dash.

Sticks

Why are these Dodges wiring for the trailer brakes not consistant with other trucks. I borrowed a trailer from my Ford father-in-law and when you plug it in the brakes are locked up because the auxilary hot from my truck is on his brake lug on his plug. I've had a fit trying to figure it out.
