Hey all,

Need help diagnosing a sound from my suspension/steering. I have 05 2500 4X4 with stock tires, wheels and suspension. 2000 miles ago I took off my Desert Racing concepts Kore Pace reservoir shocks and springs and converted back to stock due to a blown out shock and havent had time to rebuild it. Recently I get a solid snap/popping sound when I go full travel right or left with the steering whether at a dead stop or in a moving turn. I can't see anything moving or out of the ordinary when I have someone turn the wheel and I'm looking at the rig underneath yet it makes a really uncomfortable pop. I have 48000 miles and haven't replaced ball joints or anything else. Any thoughts?

I just fixed this same problem with my '03 2500 driver's side shock after changing the front shocks. When changing the front shocks, you should load some weight on them before tightening the lower bolts. Otherwise they might not seat properly down in the shackle. What I did was to VERY carefully loosen the lower shock bolt (with full weight on it) so as not to spin it all the way out. Then I hit with the air gun to tighen it up again. That worked for me.

Since it's making the sound w/o moving/driving the truck. Most likely it's the trac bar. Try tightening the bolts as tight as possible. Also did you get an adjustable trac bar w/ your suspension? If so, the trac bar is lengthen too long now w/ the stock frontend on.

The only other possible problem is your steering box. I say this because it makes the sound when the truck is not moving and turning the wheel side to side.

Elimination of moving parts when turning the steering wheel at a stop.

Thanks for all the ideas. I havent had time to turn a wrench, but I'll let you know what happens. The other thing I omitted was that I have a slight leak in the power steering pump. I've read previous posts on this problem and just need to get the O-ring and get some time to replace it.

I don't have an adjustable trac bar and I haven't tightened anything since removal of the reservoir shocks and springs. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the help

I had same trouble w/my '05. Fixing it today was on my list of to do's. Found loose nut on driver's side track bar. Fixed. This forum provides change and hope. Nice!

this is just too funny.

I was going to post a similar question today after hearing this noise fo over a year at low speed in parking lot maneuvers. It sounds like a hollow rattle "waklewacklewackle" almost too low to hear.

Where is and what is the track bar? Is it the bar that leads from the front axle toward the rear of the frame on both sides with 24mm fasteners? Mine where tight.

I found a picture of the track bar, not what I was looking at:rolleyes:

Your trackbar doesn't have the tierod type end on one end, it goes from the frame on the driverside to the axle on the passengerside on the front top of the axle. Look for it from the front of the truck.
