Yeah, but that doesn't count all the dead people, aliens, and animals that voted for Gore...

MGM, that's the reason why the press hasnt said anything. They are still upset that their man lost, playing by his rules. The only news I listen to is Fox News and AM radio.

Spent some time reading around that site... about the stock market, Alan Greenspan and the press' use of quotes... reminds me of digitally monkey'd photos, National Enquirer journalism, and slander lawsuits by the stars. This is NOT what I expected out of the Associated Press. Never again will I believe the photos and stories I see of far-off wars in Croatia, or political unrest in Indonesia or the drug war in Columbia! It's the same old American propaganda BS!! Say what you like, flame me if you wish, but I say America stinks!

The best thing everyone can do now is start urging your congressmen and senators to do away with the electorial collage. Thats a bunch of $&it. Popular vote is the omly way it should be as far as I'm concerned. KEEP RIDING EM with public opinion messages, that's what will get it done.

. . popular vote? The phrase 'tyranny of the majority' comes to mind. You wanna be ruled (and I mean ruled) by the major population centers of LA, Chicago, DC and NY (not to mention the Floridians)? No thanks... . the Constitution works just fine for the UNITED STATES of America.

Drawson,

Bush may have won the popular vote, but where is the numbers to support that statement? Do you need to add up all the states individually, or is there a total someplace? The total from the National Archives and Records Administration link on the web site you posted still has Gore with 533,002 votes more than Bush. It wouldn't surprise me to find your results to be true, but I could not find the confirmation. Look at this:
http://www.nara.gov/fedreg/elctcoll/2000popres.html

Hoping you are right,

Shelby

I'm with Gary on this one. One thing this election taught me is the framers really knew what they were doing. I always used to think we needed to get rid of the electoral college but now I understand, NO WAY! Even WITH the electoral college, you look at the map and the whole country is red for Bush with only the northeast and Commiefornia for Gore and we wind up with a virtual tie. If we went with popular vote only, the rest of us in the more rural areas of the country would have virtually no voice at all.

Daniel

Crazy Horse,
"I can't talk on the phone about this!" Have you ever heard someone in Monte Vista Colorado say this to you?
Before this election I was down on the Electorial College. I thought it was a way to fix elections. But it was spelled out to me quite clearly this time.
THE ELECTORIAL COLLEGE SAVED THE HARD WORKING AMERICANS. From being governed by the illegal voters who hide in the cities.
It is a keeper.

Shelby, I didnot total these but a good buddy of mine found this web sight and ran the totals himself. From what i'm told this web sight is really hard to get around but has links to each states official numbers.

Gary,
Just in case ya'll don't get a newspaper up there, Florida voted for Bush. There was quite an uproar about our hostage situation. We were holding the country hostage with the ransom being the rest of the country had to come get their bingo playing grandparents and take them back home before we'd turn loose of the vote. Unfortunately, we ran out of time and had to give up the tally before ya'll could come get granny. Now we have to focus on finding Barbara Striesand so we can help her pack. Will it ever end?

Steve,
There appears to be a considerable number of Very Important People who feel that (actually KNOW that) Florida voted for Gore!

Was Juan Ponce de Leone right?

Crazy Horse: Do you have any idea of what you are saying? On a per voter basis,in a presidential election (and in Congress), a voter in Alaska has more than twice the power of a Texas voter. Do you really want to give that up?

(Alaska voters make up only . 27% of voters but get . 56% of the electoral college votes. We in Texas are 6. 08% of all voters and get 5. 95% of electoral college votes. The same applies to representation in Congress)

The Presidency and Congress were set up this way to keep the more populated states (TX) from totally dominating the smaller states (AK).

Read your history. States Rights had a big part in the writing of the constitution. I don't think many voters in Alaska would give up half of their votes in Congress or the electoral college just to be fair to the rest of us!

To be fair, there was another reason that the electoral college was set up. Many of the founding fathers thought that the average person (especially women) was just not smart enough to vote for president!

Many of the founding fathers thought that the average person (especially women) was just not smart enough to vote for president!

Whoa there! Are you expressing the thoughts of the Founding Fathers, or your own concerns? I don't think that how women would vote was a concern of the Founding Fathers. In the U. S. , women didn't get to vote until 1920 with the ratification of the 19th amendment. Interestingly, women were given the right to be elected to office in 1788; they just couldn't vote for themselves. Go Figure. I wonder if this means back in the good old days the Politicians had more respect for the voters than they did for the difficulty of their own jobs? Boy, how times change... #ad

I was just expressing some of the views of the founding fathers. As I recall, the only elgible voters in those days were white male property owners.
