Is anyone using a Popup fifth wheel to gooseneck adapter? The used fifth wheel I purchased must of had an adapter at one time as it has four holes drilled in the plate. I am trying to figure out which adapter was used. The holes are 3/8" and about 5 3/4 center to center. I am thinking about getting rid of the B/W companion hitch and going with the adapter. It is a big pain going from companion to gooseneck when I haul the horse trailer. It is only a 24 foot fifth wheel so the adapter should not be much of a problem.

I've had a 5er that used a gooseneck..... I personally think that the gooseneck on a 5er puts a lot of undue stress on the front of the trailer.....

My 05 uses the B&W set up and I switch from the gooseneck to the companion in a couple of minutes.....

I keep a large magnet stuck to the companion that holds the ratcheting box end to loosen the u-bolts and draw bolt for the companion and I just grab the wrench and loosen it... . or tighten it as needed.....

I personally can't see a better set up... . we still have work trailers that are goosenecks but my 5er is now a 5th wheel style with an air ride hitch on the trailer and I like it that way. .

Hey jelag

I know you have a 5500. I was just thru Charlotte today and the Freightliner dealer has 5 or 6 Sterlings sitting out front. I guess Sterling has production running good now.

Still liking your 5500?

Cumminz... .....

Our 5500 has close to 40K miles and runs great... You know I don't think I've personally driven that truck over 300 miles... however my guy is very happy... . we sold and F550 that was a real dog... .

I understand that the 2 trucks come down the same line in Mexico, their just badged differently... .

Did you know that MB has decided to close all the Sterling plants when the labor contracts expire at each plant..... 3 plant closures between now and 2010.....

I really wonder whats going to happen... as the trucks are rolling off the Chrysler truck plant there so there must still be an agreement to sell the trucks to Sterling... as they are now a different corporation...

I'm running a PopUp GN adapter on my 5th wheel. I have a LOT of towing miles with NO problems. Give them a call about your measurements, I'm sure they will be more than happy to help you. Very NICE people.
