popup windows and TDR, WHY?

Why on earth do we have to put up with popup windows on a pay site.

Give me a break!!!!

If this site turns into one of those sites that when you click on a link, popup windows continue to come up I'm outa here.

Would the moderator of this site please respond and tell me it isn't so. .

Been here a while now and never ever had a pop up. Not sure what is going on but some of the more computer savvy among us can surely help you. I do run a firewall and ad blocking, not sure it that is it or not.



Clean out your cookies too, and get ad-aware (a free program that looks for spyware on your computer. Keep it cleaned out and problems drop down quite a bit.

I have never seen a pop up on this site other than the one that notifies me when I have a PM. I don't run any pop up killer software either. Some sites I visit are becoming a pain so I think I will install something to block the pop ups.

Joe, I am using Norton Internet Security 2002, with ad blocking. I am not running a specific pop up stopper anymore as the Norton does a pretty good job. I do not have trouble with pop-ups but my travels on the internet are pretty limited anymore. I tried one called "Pop-Up Stopper" (whooda thunk it LOL) for a while and it did not seem to help. Wish I could help more, sorry.

The ONLY pop up windows on this site are the ones notifying you when you've received a new private message. What you are experiencing is some other site you've been to has installed something on your PC to pop up those windows or your ISP is doing so. As Howard said above try downloading Ad Aware ( http://www.webattack.com/get/adaware.shtml ) and run it. It will go through your PC and most likely will find the offending application and allow you to delete it. I can assure you that it is not coming from us.

You know I upgraded to the new explorer 6. 0 and it sure seems like I get alot more pop up ads now. I have the "Stop sign" pop up stoper and it does a good job. It flashes down in the corner when ever it stops a ad. The dam thing is flashing all the time.

Another good little pogram along the same line is spybot. It will find some items that Ad-ware does not. Here is a link.

My Bad

Ok so I was having a bad day and then I got on my trusty old TDR and 3 windows poped up and without thinking about it much I let my temper get the best of me. Thank you Steve St. Laurent for the info and I apologize for my ruddnes. This is a great site. I ran ad aware and it found all kinds of ad programs. When I removed grockster it took care of it.

Thanks again for putting up with a bone head like myself.

after reading this post, i went and downloaded Adware,

it foind 61 components, especially that "Gator" which i hate.

i just told my wife, almost everytime i read the "Other" strings

i learn something, i just love this site..... Oo.
