I'm new to the 2'nd gens having owned a 92 for the past 12 years. My 02 White 2500 displays what I can only describe as "porous paint" showing speckles of rust all over the body. Is this common? I'm not positive it is rust but it sure looks like it.

I wonder if they use liquid ice melt (calcium or magnesium chloride) where you live. That could be the cause also. Very corrosive stuff if it isn't washed off right away.

i have the same thing on my truck. I spent 2 hours yesterday on it. go get detailing clay, form the auto parts store and your truck will look new.

I was a little afraid of using anything abrasive as I thought it would damage the clear-coat. Besides that issue has there been a paint problem? I,ve waxed the tiny rust spots out but they seem to come back again and they are everywhere. None of my other three vehicles, including the 92 Dodge, has done this and they are all driven in the same enviroment.

Use the clay.

The most popular theory is particles of brake dust from the rail cars that gets imbedded in the paint. Lots of brand new vehicles have it.

You haven't been grinding on anything near it have you! I made that mistake once! On a different subject, after driving your 92, do you like the second gen. as much? I swear I'm debating restoring my 92 and selling my 98 when it's done!!! Am I just weird? Or is change NOT nessessarily good!

Funny you should ask that. I thought I was just having a hard time getting used to a newer truck but I am now convinced that I like the 92 better-not in all ways but most. It is more comfortable, has better forward visibility, actually rides better although that may be due to the tires, has almost as much usable power and doesn't look like every other truck on the road. It also is a lot quieter especially standing outside. The 02 has superior brakes but with a disc brake kit for the rear of the 92 that difference could be narrowed. The fuel economy seems to be about the same with a slight edge to the 92. The 92 steers easier and has locking hubs on the front end. I'm having difficulty with this situation and would like to keep both but the yard is full.
