I started a thread on this some time ago, but I can't find it!

I was told that I could get a pos air shut off that was hooked to the alternator, and would automatically shut the engine down if it started to race. What brand was it and where can I get it installed? Will it hurt my warranty? Will it effect any performance upgrades? Hey I can't let my buddies ford beat me! (I plan on a 4" exhaust and an ez box, and bigger tires, and,,,,,) I have a 5sp 2001. I'm currently in Edmonton Ab.

You're even in the right place man... . Roda Deaco manufactures them right there in your town. Give them a call-I don't have their # handy but it's in the Edmonton phone book for sure... they will install or sell you the parts to do it yourself. Good bunch of guys with a great product-I love mine. Doesn't seem to hurt performance any-I see 30 lbs. boost after it with my EZ and 275's in our thin air. As for warranty-that's something you'd have to discuss with your dealer-but I can't see any civilized men turning you down because of it... .

Any more questions feel free to post here or PM me. .

More details

Could you guys elaborate more on what you are talking about? Is this a device like a stove damper that works on the intake and shuts off the air supply in a runaway??

I assume you are talking about a runaway caused by a failed turbo and of course shutting off all electrical power to the ECM/Engine would do no good at all in stopping the engine.

You're on the right track Vaughn!

The Roda Deaco ones are actually a swinging disc-type valve-so when they're fully open they don't restrict the airflow at all. If you're going to use your truck in the oilfield at all, it's mandatory equipment to work for a lot of companies-one good breath of gas and your engine suddenly gets a mind of its own :( -kind of a downer... .

There's manual activated ones that require you to pull a cable to trip the valve. Mine is electrically tripped and also RPM sensing-so I don't have to be sitting in the seat to trip it. Very good peace of mind-not a cheap toy (mine was a tick under $1200 Canadian and I installed it myself)-but IMO you're a fool to work the 'patch without one. .

Fully adjustable!

It's a slick piece of work..... I have absolutely no qualms about recommending Roda Deaco to anyone. If you go down to their shop they'll tour you through the place-and they'll explain exactly how the whole package works. Or if you want come on down to the dyno day in Calgary on the 15th and you can have a look at mine.

P. S. I don't have any experience with the reflash-but I have a Practical Solutions adjustable high idler on mine-and I love it! Gordon is another topnotch vendor who I highly recommend... .

P. P. S Neither Roda Deaco or Practical Solutions have paid me for these testimonials! :D
