I use those heatshrink 3m butt connectors. I rewired my trailer with those and put everything in conduit and haven't had any problem with them. For some reason I cannot master the art of sodering for the life of me. -Jason

Practice! That, and remember to heat the metal, not the solder. Also, for electrical connections I find that leaded solder works WAY better than unleaded. I use Kester "Kwik-Draw" Rosin Core solder, 60% Tin, 40% Lead.

Maybe this will help?

If it is a long term job or exposed to the elements on something I care about I tend to go with solder/shrink tubes, e. g. the lights on my flatbed, my kill switch, or ebrake connections. If it's something that I might want to remove it's crimp and go. Didn't use any crimps on the 04 or 97.

Solder and heat shrink for splices, but for anything that requires connections ie: spade lugs, ring terminals etc, I use only the heat shrink crimp type. I've found those much more reliable than a plain crimp terminal. I just got some heat shrink crimp terminals with solder inside, can't wait to try those out.

I do like those posi lock connectors when I need to repair something on the road. Always keep a few in the glove compartment.
