How many companies make posi units or lockers for the Dana 70 rear? Also, does the ratio determine the size of the unit, as it does in some of the older cars?
There is the stock Power-Lok that is a clutch type limited slip. It requires a whole carrier.
There is a Lock-Rite that gets added to an open differential carrier (you will have to remove a 3. 54 carrier to install it, I don't know about a 4. 10)
My personal experience, I perfer the Dana Power Lock. The trick to make it work correctly is to add just enough Friction Modifier to keep the clutches from chattering when you make a turn. Add to much and they won't grab. Plus it has 4 spider gears. A Detroit Locker will give best traction to both wheels, but is not very streetable, especially when loaded. Bent an axle shaft with one, loaded, and turning. The Lock Right, you install in your open differential. I never used one, but my friend had one. Rounded the teeth that make it engage in less than a year. The ARB is engaged by air. You have advantage of control of lock or open. Also have to buy air compressor. On a Dana 70, 4:10 and taller use same carrier. 4:56 and lower is different. A Dana 80 uses a different carrier for 3:54 and 4:10. Best prices I found was at 4 Wheel Parts Wholesalers. Hope this helps.
