I am past my warranty period, but think I may need the tsb done on my truck for slow fuel gauge response/poor a/c performance. The fuel gauge isn't really much of an issue, as it only sometimes moves very slowly, but always registers correctly. However, the a/c I'm noticing (now that it's summer) really stinks, it doesn't get COLD until I'm on the highway or the engine is warmed up. Forget cooling down the cab as it idles...

Did anyone have this particular tsb done, and how were the results?

Would one typically expect to pay for a tsb to be completed once we're out of warranty? Thanks in advance.

TSB items are not like recalls - just service alerts to possible problems and fixes, and and I *think* usually paid for by the customer... . At least my Ford driving bud just had one done on his '99 SD Ford, and he had to pay for it...

I don't know about Dodge, but with Honda, TSBs are covered under warranty. In some cases if outside the warranty period, the dealer may get authorization to cover the problem under warranty.

As mentioned, TSBs are not like recalls. Generally speaking, the purpose of the TSB is to give the dealer an easy solution to what is apparently a common problem. This speeds up the technician's time, since they don't have to do as much troubleshooting.

I remember taking my Ram into a dealer (Whittier Dodge in So Cal) to get a TSB fixed. The service manager denied that one even existed for that problem. When I showed it to him, he asked where I got it, and I told him where it was posted. He went on to "Phoooey" the internet saying that all that "stuff" is just BS. That was just one of many issues I had with that dealer's incompetence. I'll stop on that subject before I go into a rant.

I just had the TSB done for my cracked alternator bracket. The first thing the service rep did was determine if my truck was still under warranty. The service rep made a point to tell me the TSB would be done at no cost ONLY if the truck was still under warranty. If not under warranty I would have to pay. Thankfully I am still under the warranty.

The service rep should be able to tell you the cost they charge for any TSB, try given em a call.

When the throttle cable on my 96 started to go, it was just a TSB and I paid for the repair. When that became a full recall, my dealer instructed me to send DC the receipt of the repair. The cost, including all shop fees and sales tax, was reimbursed in full... in just 1 week.

So if you're charged for a TSB repair because you're out of warranty, hang on to the receipt. If it becomes a recall, you WILL get that money back.
