Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Possible injector seizing

I talked to a friend who use to be the Dodge dealerships diesel mechanic up here. I mentioned that I was going to go to the marine 370 injectors on my engine. He told me that when you put bigger injectors into the engine that the P7100 pump could not keep up with the flow of the injectors and I would run the injectors dry and damage the pump and delivery valves. I've never herd of anyone having this problem. Has anyone done this? Ever hear of it?

He is inncorrect. I have never heard of anybody have problems with 370 injectors on a 215HP pump(96-98. 4).



Now on the 160HP pumps(94-??) they can cause a stumble that can be cured with the addition of 191 D-valves, but that's the only bad thing I've heard about 370's.

Agree with Mark here also... on another note I went from 378 to 694 hp with the same injectors... ... . just plain ole' PDR's.

You would be surprised how much fuel a p pump can flow, even a 160. Its all in the rack travel. The injector pump cam helps a ton also with fill time. If you run a good size plate in a 160 pump you will be fine. I have 370s in my truck (180 pump) and have no problems at all.

The Pump could not keep up with the flow of injectors?



Last I checked,, the Pump raises pressure, and the injectors "pop-off" at a pre-set presure, there would be no way for the injectors to suck fuel out of the Pump, DV's, and themselves. and, even if the pump could not "keep-up", the Injectors would only "close" too soon. If the pump couldn't keep up, you can only make less power,, I don't feel their is anyway to "run the pump dry".



How would you "suck Air", if the complete system is a "closed loop", from the fuel tank, all the way to the return line running back to the fuel tank?
