Wasn’t Tremec an OE supplier at one point?

Either way I don’t recall ever reading too many positive comments about them behind a CTD.
I know a certain Tremec was the viper trans, and I think a certain other model is the trans used in the current Challenger and other musclecars.

It’s my belief that once New Venture went belly up, so did hard parts like synchros and gears. It’s possible that the aftermarket stepped up in recent times.

Yes I'm aware there is a massive difference between 1st Gen and all the others. However the mid plate bolt pattern is the same. In 2017 when researching a stronger better raito OD transmission than the non lockup 46rh capable of handling power above stock, thermac crossed my sights.

I talked to an engineer at thermac he assured me there Magnum XL 2.66 transmission would handle any tuning I did to my first gen including a p-pump and twins swap ,however, nobody to their knowledge( Circa 2017) has devised an appropriate mounting solution. He went so far as to say if I prototyped a bellhousing and Associated parts they would be interested in purchasing the kit rights as the Cummins market is massave and all have the same mid plate bolt pattern.

Yes a thermac is behind the viper V10 which is the V8 bolt pattern not the truck V10 / diesel pattern.

Problem I had with the NV 5600 or the G56 is there both are single Overdrive just more gear between Direct and 1st as well as power limitations, let's face it 85 miles an hour a 0.75 OD would be at Redline with my 2500 rpm governor and 3.55 gears running 31.7 D Tires for me this was a step in the wrong direction Bonneville Salt Flats are all about gear ratio and TQ . I finally decided on a built Allison 6-speed with a 2100fttq /700hp warranty.
3.20 first 12: 1 with torque converter per the TCM OBD2 read out , 0.71 5th, 0.61 6th now cruise @ 85 =1952 rpm 14rpm below peak HP per the dyno on the old trans.

I understand many want the manual transmission for stopping power. In April I went to Pikes Peak on the way down I only used the brakes in a few of the hair pins, I stop at the halfway down brake inspection point, the front brake rotors where for registering 80°, @300° they write you a speeding ticket.

Good info, it's a decent trans and the stand alone controller makes swapping it easier than some other transmissions.

I'll just say that I am rather surprised you went that far with a trans swap, but still have the 2500 governor kit.

$2k extra for beefed up inturnals . Was a nice bump from 92.5 to 103mph and cut 200rpm. My goal is 130mph on 300k +stock sealed VE45 pump. Next up is a SCS drop box with gearsets for 1800 - 2100rpm @130mph. I need to find a dyno near Butte Mt to find what the trans, QSV, hx35w12/6cm , repoped injectors, and 4"turbo back outbord exhaust has done to my HP and TQ curves and numbers. TCM is reporting 752Nm x.78= 586fttq

That one is a 5-speed.

Yeah, that’s too light for a Cummins. Tremec makes good hot-rod transmission’s, though.

If I wanted to go to a manual and could have my choice, I’d go with the Ford ZF-6.
got to wonder about the transmission gear face toughness as the diesel application have a very different vibration characteristic then the gas engines. might pay dividends to put that into the considerations for a alternate trans.

@Ozymandias - great video! I currently have 325,000 miles on my original NV5600. It is still running strong, but I am going to research the cost of this TREMEC transmission and find out if it would be a reasonable modification to perform on my truck. It would certainly a great upgrade after the good life of the NV5600.

I’m currently working on an upgraded 1 3/8” input shaft for this TR 4050, I should have the shaft in a month or so, then I’ll find out what it can handle. I was so fed up with the Nv 4500 problems, Ive literally had the trans out 5 times in the last 7 years ive owned the truck, so I actually found someone to make the input shaft.. which will literally make this transmission a bolt up, with the exception of shortening the rear driveshaft 4 “. I will let you know once I get mine installed. And I got compounds, p pump 600 hp. . The company making my shaft says it will easily handle it, they’re also 1 of the only Tremec distributors in the U.S. and sell a ton of these transmissions.
