Ok, here's the deal. My transmission is all stock. This past weekend I pulled my 6k TT up a moderately steep dirt road at a fairly slow speed. Below 25 MPG. My transmission temp got about 250 degrees according to the gauge. I stopped and let it cool but it only cooled to about 200 before I had to head back down the hill. Do you think my transmission is starting to go south? I've never seen it get that hot before. Granted I was going faily slow, TQ wasn't locked and no air going through the cooler. It still performs fairly well. On the freeway at 70 MPH it stays right around 130 with that kind of weight. Oh, my probe is mounted in the cooler line.

Probe in the return line from the cooler or before the cooler?

If after the cooler those are high numbers. If b4 those #,s r still a little high.

Ive seen 225-230 via the OEM sending unit to my BD x-mon after slow up hill (5-10mph) 4x4 climb for 20 mins.

assuming your TC is OEM id say those high numbers could be the sign of future trouble. Has it slipped on you with the smarty?

Thats pretty normal temp for the conditions. You will almost always see that high in slow speed driving with the TC unlocked. I never worry too much about cooling it down till I see a consistent 300 degrees. Try it Vegas in July towing a trailer if you want to really warm it up. ;)

ATF+4 is a group 3 synthetic, it can stand temporary spikes to 320 degrees without totally breaking down. If all you see is 250 tops you are good for 20-30k then change it. Even though the fluid will stand spikes in temp the higher and more often they the more you need to change.

Your temp cruising sound a little low though. I would see that temp in the winter but the rest of the year 160-180 is pretty normal. I wonder if your probe is not quite into the fluid stream in the line. :)

i just put in a transmission temp gauge in my truck an mine hits 250 just drivin around town:eek: with no load. my transmission seems to preform fine. I used the acutemp adapter on the line coming right out of the transmission. Im fixing to order a full billit one so if something blows up no big deal i guess... ... . My buddy has the same gauge same transmission an same acutemp adapter an his transmission runs at 150... .....

I would suspect a something is not reading right with 250 temp. Its possible if you are slipping badly but your fluid should be real nasty and you would feel it. :)

I think it was reading right. no airflow, slow speed up hill. The TQ isn't locked so in essence it's slipping the whole way. my probe is also mounting in the pre-cooler line so I'm probably a little cooler than that.
