I was on Dish Networks site and happened to notice a link regarding local telephone/internet service - DISH Network | Phone and High-Speed Connection Service . I checked it out and they had plans hooked up with my existing phone provider - EXCEPT it was cheaper!! Not only that but they had internet plans that weren't available direct from the telco. The max internet plan they had direct was 10mb and through dish I could get 15mb. So now I'm on a 15mb internet plan plus local phone for less than I was paying for my 1. 5mb service before. The net's smokin now. Alternatively I could have gotten the same 1. 5mb and phone service for ~$12 less a month.

Wow, that's crankin'

With the Charter cable 10mb dn/1mb up plan I'm seeing about 9600kb/s down & 975kb/s up. Just had fiber run in my neighborhood this month so Verizon offers "FIOS" for 105. 00/mo. Not sure of the speeds, but think that covers internet, phone, & TV.

Will have to consider Dish Network. One bill right? All Ive got is an indoor antenna and not much decent tv. (which explains why im here a lot ; ) )

HMMmmm - the only local DSP supplier here is Centurytel, we have Dish network as satellite provider, and have seen their ads for DSP service, but I'm unsure how they could provide any faster service than what we already have thru the only local DSP supplier...

On top of that, we have a total package with Centurytel that includes long distance and DSP in the monthly price - but might check further - things DO change as time passes...

(EDIT)

On another note, Steve, I just went to your web page pointer, and what I see is a bunch of listings for poker tables and supplies, what's that all about?

That was my cummins page which was on my domain where I sold poker tables that I built. I forgot that I was linking to it there. Business was way down so I let the domain expire and it looks like someone else has bought it.

Our local supplier is CenturyTel as well Gary. Check out that link in the first thread and see what offers they have. They had one that included long distance and DSL as well. In my area though CenturyTel only shows 10mb as being available if you check on the CenturyTel site. But on that Dish site it said I could upgrade to 15mb for $10 more (through CenturyTel). If I had stayed with the exact same service I had through Centurytel and just switched it over I would be saving $12/month. As it is I'm going to be saving $2 a month and have 10 times faster internet service! It was very simple. All I did what fill it out online and told it to convert it and nothing changed on my end other than my DSL modem connect rate changed today to the higher rate. It's still through CenturyTel, it's just an agreement Dish has with them. I just checked pricing on CenturyTel's site for our town and Unlimited long distance + 15 phone features + 10 mb internet is a $107. 89 bundle. Price out that same bundle still from CenturyTel but through the Dish site and you can get it for $79. 90 - and that's for 15mb service.

I don't know yet whether it will be on one bill or not - don't really care as long as I'm saving money :)

I cancelled my home internet. I have internet availible at work. Saves me $70 a month x 12 = $840 a year.

Here is my speed test using Comcast cable modem...

Judging by the test results I guess it is well worth the current price of ~$107 for Cable Modem, HD Digital Cable, and Home Phone Service. Can't say that I will always stay with Comast for TV and Phone service, but I have been a cable modem customer for going on 8 years and have always been happy with the speed and service vs DSL.
