G-30 Recall

My truck had a CEL after a turbo cleaning and new exhaust so I returned it this morning. It was running fine, just the annoying light.

It had all TSB updates as of a week ago. Dealer just called and said they had a new flash update for it and were told to expect more updates in the coming weeks.

Band-aid. They did the same thing to mine. They reflashed it and the truck ran like it was running with a programmer. But the joy didn't last for long. Within two days, the truck was running like crap and the light came back on.

Sorry to hear that guys. I've nothing but troubles and continiously lit light since I bought the truck exactly a year ago. Of course there have been many flash updates and more recently the "turbo cleaning", dpf replacement and even the turbo being replaced and still the light remained. However, after this last flash update (sorry to say I don't know the details-I plan to find out) my light is out and has stayed out for the last 3 weeks and over 2000 miles! The truck runs great and even gets better milage! (18 average now vs 15 before). So the shock that this truck actually may run normal is still setting in but for now I'm happy and thoughts of trading it in are slowly going toward the back of my mind. I hope more of this flash gets around the country for the rest of you guys and fixes everything.
What I am worried about though is the turbo. It had to be replaced after 15000 miles because of that problem where the gate wouldn't slide and the truck just wouldn't go. Well, no software will stop the exhaust smoke from making that happen again I feel so soon I plan on doing the full dpf/egr delete.

I have gotta tell you you just said almost word for word what I can say... . except my joy did not last long ... but now I know that this truck can perform ..... Just had my turbo cleaned and all codes erased ... the newest flash as of Thursday 08/28/08... I am pretty sure I did not get the latest flash because the mechanics were saying they heard a new one was just released ... . I don't think I got it ..... but my truck definitely ran great and the mileage was up ... . and then cel came on mileage went down etc. etc. I am just frustrated and waiting for this lemon law atty. to tell me what my other options are..... such as repurchase or extend my warranty and give me some cash... . which I will quickly spend on egr and dpf deletes.

I hate to burst all your wishful thinking bubble that things will get better but they won't. The only way your are going to get rid of all your problems is to delete the DFP and EGR. I know everyone is worried about warranty, however, the only way to make these trucks run is to do the deletes. Otherwise your truck will spend more time at the dealership trying to get fixed, you hating your truck etc... ... ... :{

Many of us have done this mod and when you get 19-21 MPG, no more turbo issues, better performance, more HP, no more re-gen, no more EGT problems, no more dealerships, no more flashes etc. Been there done that. #@$%!

Tell me ... when (not if) I do the dpf delete I assUme they send a module of some type to plug into something. What is it and where does it plug in? Do I have to tap wires or does it replace something?Egr delete seems all mechanical ... no electrical mods?

All the emmisions are electronicly monitored or controlled including EGR ,so yes it will take some black box to make it all work

You need two things to make your truck run right. #1. Edge additude and #2. H & S DPF and egr delete kit (stage 1). The DPF delete kit comes with a 4" straight pipe that eliminates both the cat and DPF. It has a bung welded in the middle where the o2 sensor is replaced. There are three (3) egt probes that are unplugged and replaced with three (3) pluged in modules. The end of the 4" exhaust pipe is plumbed back into your stock muffler. On the egr, side, you remove the egr valve on top of your intake manifold which are blocked off with two plates included in the kit. You also need to remove the gate vane inside the intake manifold that is held in by two (2) tork screws. reinstall everything and disconnect the plug to the egr valve and you're done. It took me an hour and fifteen minutes to do. The Edge Additude is used at start-up to delete the soft code " egr circuit is low". The reason that comes up is the egr plug is left unplugged to run right.

There are no wires to tap into. A lot of people removed the egr valve and the bypass line when performing this mod. I perfered a "stealth" apperance and additionally blocked the by pass line, cut the egr valve wire about 4" down from the plastic plug that goes to the egr valve and re attached it. You can not tell looking at the engine anything is different. While doing this mod, you should throughly clean ever part ie. , the intake manifold, heater grid, egr vave, bypass line with something like carburator cleaner before putting all back together to remove all the built up soot... . you will see what I mean when you remove everything.

I run my truck hard at times, and average 19. 3-20. 9 miles per gallon hi-way ( hand calculated) on level #5 on the Edge Additude which is within two tenths of the overhead computer reading. I Live at 5750' elevation and travel between 6700'-4000' daily. There is no smoke while driving normally on level #5 and a litttle when pushed hard, and a little more on level #6 which I rarely have to do. Egt's down approx. 150-200*, better throttle response, more seat of pants HP, smoother running, no turbo issues, no re-gen issues etc. Have the latest AX flash.

I would recommend the latest flash before doing this mod. In my case. my DPF and CAT got plugged up at 6000 miles. It took the dealer 4 weeks to get the replacement parts, and in the meantime I did the delete mod. When the parts came in I told the dealer my truck was broke down approx. 200 miles away, and talked him into just exchanging my old for new. He didn't even mind, as his shop was backed up with other repairs, and if I had the ability to take it off he felt I had the ability to put back on. Besides I'm sure he claimed a warranty labor for not doing anything. Now I've got a brand new system sitting in my garage if ever I need to reinstall. Have 3000 trouble free miles since the delete, love this truck like never before.
