I just finished installing Isspro EGT, boost and Westach fuel pressure gauge on my 2001 ETH. Here are a few things I found out:
I installed all 3 gauges in a 3 pod pillar mount which I painted with some Dodge interior paint first. This took the majority of the time. First off, running all the wires for the lights and power for the gauges took about 3 hours of routing, re-routing, splicing, re-splicing and installing all the terminal lugs. I learned to just go ahead and yank the instrument panel, lower kick panel, and light switch right off the bat so you can have access to everything. The stock pillar popped right off and I deemed installing it along with the aftermarket 3 pod pillar wouldn't work due all the wiring and boost hose making it too tight of a fit. For the wiring I used 2 add-a-circuits from Auto Zone to supply power to the gauges and the gauge lighting from the fuse panel, great little setup.
The EGT probe install pre-turbo went off without a hitch. I used the grease on the drill bit and tap technique followed by the magnet clean up technique. Spent 15 minutes making sure I got all the shavings out.
Boost gauge install was made a much easier by purchasing a boost adapter from Piers Diesel, another great idea.
Fuel pressure gauge was fairly simple but did cause some good gouges to my knuckles due to excessive hand size and tight working area. I bought the tapped banjo fitting from Geno's along with the gauge.
Things I might do differently?
Mounting the Isspro EGT gauge amplifier was a big pain in the butt. I would probably get one without the amplifier as it also increased the size of the wiring bundle behind the pillar mount due to a rather large connector from the amp to the gauge.
I also wouldn't wait so long to install gauges, it took one solid day to do it, but the results are worth it. I now know how quickly the EGT climbs up to 1200. It does it much quicker than my 91 Dodge did which I guess I should have expected. I also found out my lift pump is good according the Dodge service manual but not quite as good as my buddy's 2001. 5 ETH. His is fuel pressure is pretty much pegged on the 16 psi gauge and mine is 12-13 psi with out the motor running and drops to about 11-12 psi with the engine at idle. I guess I have a lift pump in my future. My boost is hitting just short of 20 psi running empty. My truck is stock with 24,000 miles on it so these figures are in the ballpark. I don't plan on bombing it but now when I have the truck loaded down with dirt bikes and our camp trailer, I can keep an eye on how hard the truck is working and that darn fuel pressure.
I wanna thank Gary, owner of Big Blue Meanie as well as Garrett from No Arc Electrical for their help. It made things much simpler.
