Anybody know wusup @ Cummins-Conversion.com

12 Valve In place of a 24 Valve?

anyone that is running a 4bt (no 6bt's) please post pertinant information here so people can see what works, and maybe save some money/time by following known gear combinations:

(copy my bold template and add/change info so its kind of standard)

ENGINE/CPL/HP/TQ 4bt/858/105/265

Inter/After-cooler NO

Transmission/overdrive ratio 2wd NV4500/. 73od

Transfer Case/low range Divorced np205/1. 96to1

Axle Ratio 4. 56

Tire Size 38"

Vehicle Weight 6280lbs total (3780front axle/2500rear)

Fuel MPG ?? 24+mpg@70mph/30+mpg@55mph

no complaints, although flat towing a 6000lb vehicle maxed the truck out to about 60mph. i have since downgraded to 35" tires that are 1/2 the weight of the 38's. the truck accelerates faster.....

the swing in my mpg is rpm swing, not a true hwy city comparison

Jeep/Cummins/Allison thread

Goal:

Make a very comfy daily driver with a STOUT drivetrain that gets better mileage than my old beater '94 Dodge/Cummins (17mpg on a good day with a tailwind)

Parts I have:

'96 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4x4 (Quadratrac)

'01 Cummins ISB-170 (170hp/420ft-lbs, 3. 9L, HPCR)

'01 Allison LCT-1000 (full rebuild with new clutches, shift kit, misc. tweaks, etc. - Thanks Al !!)

150gph FASS - Thanks Jim!!

Parts I need:

airbags on all 4 corners

More Sawzall blades (or my old Hypertherm plasma cutter! :{ )

Bottle of argon

Spool of MIG wire

Specs: I have no idea what it'll get for mileage, but I'd be surprised if it got much less than 25mpg at highway speeds.

1978 Chevy Blazer - Bonanza Edition

1986 Cummins 4BT rebuilt

4 wd NV4500 rebuilt from GearTechHD.com

w/hyd clutch

NV to 465 bellhousing with no adapter - machined at GearTechHD.com

11" clutch and pressure plate for BB chevy

Flywheel from Avant Salvage

pilot bearing

np205 rebuilt from GearTechHD.com - twin stick

NP to NV with no adapter - machined at GearTechHD.com

14bff rear 4. 56 detroit with disc brakes

d60 front 4. 56 open

Hydro boost from 1985 Blazer w/diesel

a 1" inch body lift would be nice but not absolutely necessary. A 5. 5" spring lift in front and a 4. 5" shackle flip in rear. the lift is necessary due to height of motor. No hood cutting but it is about 1/2" from hood.

26+ mpg highway

sorry I'll post my CPL / Engine numbers after

1971 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ55 Wagon, Spring Over Axle ~6" lift:

Inter/After-cooler: Air-Air Aftercooler (Volvo Station Wago)

Transfer Case/low range: NP241 2. 72 low

Axle Ratio: 4. 1

Tire Size: 35x12. 5x15 Goodyear MTR

Vehicle Weight: 5500lbs

Fuel MPG: 22-23 hwy under 65-70, 18-20 faster. Around town closer to 18. Fuel is turned up though...

ENGINE/CPL/HP/TQ 4bt/767/~125/~340

Inter/After-cooler: NO

Transmission/overdrive ratio: 4wd NV4500/. 73od

Transfer Case: np208

Axle Ratio: 3. 55

Tire Size: 29"

Vehicle Weight ~4,800lbs total

Fuel MPG: 25+mpg@70mph

'85 Ram Prospector 4x4 shortbed w/ 4BT, HY35W for early boost, NV4500 and NP208 to 3. 54 rear, Bosch 190 injectors, 4" stainless Magnaflow system, 29" Coopers. Hydroboost brakes. 1 1/2" wheels spacers front and 2" spacers rear.

Air bags at rear axle. extra set of springs for 3" lift. Electric cooling fan

Pulling 5,000 boat no sweat. Would like to go to a 30. 5" tire for better economy and closer to sweet spot on torque curve. Will have to compromise on some really nice turbo spool-up I'm getting right now with the 29's.

Any progress sounds like a sweet set up. How about some pics?

You already posted in the Jeep/Cummins/Allison thread, but feel free to contact me with any other queries.

Progress has been slow - I haven't done much with it since the last update... got hitched recently, etc. I hope to get out there and work on it this weekend, though. This will likely be the weekend where I decide whether the engine goes under the hood or in the cargo area. :-laf

Early Bronco

1968 Ford Bronco w/3. 5" suspension lift so oil pan is above above D44 axle

2" Body lift to clear hood with 4BT

CPL 858. Non-intercooled. 94 6BT non-wastegated turbo, otherwise OEM.

TH-400 with Dana 20 -

Locking 3:50 gears. 35" Tires = 2. 80 corrected gearing.

Max govenor @77 MPH, power is more than adequate. Not even sluggish.

Shifts set @ 1300-1500, reaches 3d @ 32-35MPH.

At 55, it purrs along at its sweet spot with a feather of throttle, feels like 40.

Shortened Ford Taurus 2 sp electric fan & V8 radiator.

Requires inner and fender braces to contain vibration.

At stoplights, it annoys the kids with the vibration multiple hundred amp thump steros; they roll up their windows. Imagine a grin.

Damn fun Bronco.
