Gentlemen,

Those of you who follow the board closely know that my son is enjoying his new sport headlights, thanks for all the help. Now it is my trucks turn,(04 quad cab) the rear dool lock does not function electrically as the other doors do. Any ideas as to where to start looking for the problem?

Thanks and Merry Christmas

I would start by looking at the wires that go through the rubber bellows between the B pillar and the rear door.
IIRC, despite the protection of the rubber sleeve, the wires are prone to breaking inside of it.

OK so do I just pry the boot out of the post with a screw driver or something to expose the wires or is there another way I need to go about this? Additionally I have no lights on the part of the dash where the temperature control and fan control are.

Thanks again

The boots will pop out (I used a little soapy water to remove and install), as for your temp control it sounds like bulbs are burnt out and that you have to go to the dealer.

The bulbs that are located where you are talking about are replaceable, but they can only be purchased from a dealer. Mine went out and the service manual gives the dealer part number and it did not cross at the auto parts store.

Had the same problem with my rear doors. It is the wires broken between the b pillar and the rear door.

Did some one switch the kid safty switch on?? They are on the door close to the latch when the door is open. Good Luck

Just thought I'd bump this thread, in case someone else is having the same troubles. I had this exact issue, and was about to buy a lock actuator for the rear driver's-side door, when I did a search and came upon this thread. Amazing. There are nine wires in that boot that goes into the door, and five of them were broken. And the other 4 had cracks in the insulation... only a matter of time before they were broken, as well. I added in extensions to all the wires.

Don't go to the dealer..... Amazon has the unit much cheaper. Very easy to replace. One thing that caught me surprise after plugging in your new unit and starting the truck, the unit will flash multiple times. Computer recognition (?)

i have fixed my wires in the harness and had problem again

looked and now have 5 broken wires in one door harness and almost two on the other rear door.

I am gonna break down and buy some new harness. what part numbers and where to get the cheapest ones?

(i use my 06 daily for business so i am actually surprized the wires made it this long as a service truck. )

When I replaced mine a year or two ago, I got mine from mopar4less.com. You have to call their number and be sure to tell them you want "Internet Pricing". With "Internet Pricing", I got them for about half of my local Stealership... yep, I said it; stealership fits this time.

I tried to find the part number for you... but no luck. I must have thrown it away. What I did was get the part number from my local dealer, then ordered the harness from http://www.partswebsite.com/dcjpartsdiscounters/ referencing the part number. $142 total... but still a lot cheaper than the dealer,,,and piece of mind that the window will go back up and the door will lock!

Found it!! Part#: 56051931AB That's the number for the wiring harness.
Advice: Make a good mental note or take a picture of where the securing clips are attached when removing your old harness,
Makes it much easier to snap the new ones in their proper place.

For your heater control unit: I had the same problem... . picked up a new one very cheap from amazon.
Easier than replacing bulbs. . I think you'll agree once you look at the back of the unit.

Good luck!

Thanks for the part number. For those of you who have replaced your harness with this OEM harness, is it any better? Or is it exactly the same and destined to fail eventually just like the original?

Very high quality part. Complete with attached boot and securing pins. I'm sure though, that over time, the same thing will happen to this harness. Super-easy install except for the plug that attaches to the latch area. Very restrctive. . has to be done by touch. . and a lot of patience. Took me a whole beer to get that one connector attached :-laf
