Hello to everyone out there. My name is Robert I am a new member to this site as well as a new member to the Cummins upgrade & modification family. Thank you for the valuable info. I have already gotten even before I joined.

If any one could offer some info. on my situation I would appreciate it. I don't have the cash to drop into the transmission upgrades at the moment but I want to get as much (transmission safe) power as I can. I am willing to spend up to a couple thousand right now but don't know the safest way to go.

Next, how on earth can I get my power limiting EGT to come down. I know there is more power there, but I try to keep it under 1100 for extended periods. Any help for this "babe in the woods" would be great.

(I hope I put my truck info. into the signature right. )

Thank you in advance,

Robert

Well, what are you running for a fuel plate? Where is it set at? To be honest, I am not a auto transmission guy, but from what I have heard on here i would put that $$ you want to spend on power, into your transmission. I hear the stock 47rh's can't take a whole lot of extra power from stock before the converter starts to give as well as the rest of the transmission. You already have the Banks kit which is a mild bomb(came to find that out cuz I have the same thing but just the turbine and manifold are all I kept from the Power PK). What injection pump are you running? 160, 175, 180 or 215 HP??

Thank you for the reply JGheen,

The fuel plate is the Ottomind fuel calibration plate that came in the Power Pk. I do not know where it is set at, but will crack into it soon, to find out. To be honest, i have not tried to identify the Injection Pump yet, but assume it is stock. I know I didn't replace it. I do think you are right, i should just save the money and put it into the transmission.

If anyone could school me on the EGT that would be great. It seems to jump up really fast, at idle it stays just above 300. Are there any ways to keep it down and use the power that is lurking up around the point I let off (1000-1100)

Thanks,

Robert

Robert,

Your EGTs are fine at those temps. All these engines typically idle @ 300*F. I would not run the engine any higher than about 1350-1400 for longer than 10+ seconds as piston temps reach a melting point.

It sounds like your Banks plate is set slightly forward from the stock position which is fine for your application. The Banks plate has a similar profile to a #11 plate but a tad bit more conservative to prevent engine damage in case someone installed it full forward. Just watch you temps on hills and enjoy your current power and IMO, no more until that auto gets upgraded.

As for you injection pump, I am sure it is stock but what is the HP rating of it? You can find this on the spec plate that is stamped to the side of the front cover just in front of the injection pump. It should be a 160, 175, 180 or like mine a 215 pump.
