This really isn't diesel related, but it IS product related. #ad

When I was on my Colorado trip recently, I saw in several Flying J Truckstops a Portawattz 1750 power inverter for $349. This is a helluva good price (didn't know it at the time), and am wishing I'd bought one.

Is anybody close to a Flying J that recalls seeing one at this price? I had a few friends check, and the onces in Salt Lake City and Gretna, NE don't have 'em. I've been thinking long and hard to remember which ones I found them in... and I think it was either Rawlins, WY, North Platte, NE, or Salina, KS. Hmmm...

If not, anybody know what the best price on the net is for one of these? I can't go any bigger for lack of space in my Lance 1030 camper, but I need at least 1500 watts.

Thanks!

Rob

Hi Rob, I have dealt with many of Statpowers products and realy like them, have you looked on the Statpower page www.statpower.com to see if they might have one of these models in the refurb section, I have bought several this way at very discounted prices and have never had any problems.

A problem I've had with the Stratpowers is that if you ever overload them they fry instantly. Maybe thats why they have refurbished ones. They were always good about replacing the fried ones though.

You mean to say that they have no overload protection?? That's kinda lame.

Maybe I oughta re-evaluate what I want in an inverter...

Alan, thanks for the link. I'll definitely buy from them if the Portawattz units turn out to be worthwhile.

Thanks!

Rob

Rob, I've got a catalogue in front of me with 2000Watt w/4000watt peak, Galaxy power inverter for $279. 99 and $6. 50 frt. , 6 mo. limited warranty. They don't say they are refurb, so assume they are new. I ordered a 350watt today for $49. 99 w/free frt. Its a Heartland America cat. If you want 800# and cat. # let me know. You need cat. # for the 1/2 priced frt. special.

I bought the portawatz 1750 from where Mcrossley and Arland said to go and have very good luck with it. It was also fast and painless to get.

I have a friend that has the portawatt 1500 (i think). He hasnt had any problems with it except some things hum a bit from its non true sine-wave output.

I've been using a Tripplite 1200 for years, and have abused the ** out of it and all it does is pop the 4ea. 40 amp fuses if I get too rough on it. Cant hurt the thing. The downside is it weighs about 60 lbs. Pulls a lot of juice too!

You should use some 1/o or 2/o welding cable to power them up w/ at least 2 batts in parallel.
