Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) NV4500 Amsoil 75w-90 Series 2000

Very low EGT's

I've got a "99 dodge 3500 w/5.9L 24 valve, I can be driving along, Tack running about 2500, & all of a sudden the tack drops off to 0. I loose almost all power (totally gutless, accelerates really really slow) still runs just no power. Also when that happens if I shut it off while the tack is at 0 when I try to start it, it won't, I can give it a shot of ether and it will start. & when the tack drops off at some point while driving the tack will come back up & power is restored. Note if I shut it down with the tack reading as it should the truck will start the next time as it should. Any Ideas???

Your crank position sensor is dying. Had it happen to mine. Cummins part number
5491995. Don't go with eBay stuff, get the actual Cummins part. It is located on the driver side of the block, down low toward the rear of the engine.

Thank you for all the reply's. Anyone else wish to add to the suggestions (please specify you experience on the matter), like if the same has happened to you, or maybe a motor specific mechanic, etc.....
