Forgive me for asking this (I have more experience with Navistar diesels) but what "free" mods can be made to get more power from a 95? This is on my Dad's truck... . we have already installed a AWD 4" exhaust system. Are there any adjustments that can be made to the pump without buying a new plate, etc?
Thanks,
Jerry

Jerry,
Yes there are a couple screws in the back of pump that can be adjusted.

These are very delicate and fine adjustments
and mite be difficult to get back to oringinal setting(In case things get messed up). This why many use the plates you can go back to stock by switching plates. Archives will have pros and cons on both methods or wait for the real bombers to reply.

But there are a couple adjustments on the pump at the AFC housing. On top of AFC housing under a hex cap there is a star wheel that if turned toward engine will increase fuel at low rpm which in return will increase boost. You can also turn up the High Idle screw setting a little(screw on side of AFC/Govenor/pump). This will give you some higher RPM to work with. Instead of fueling down at 2600 rpm you can get to 3000 rpm.

Also you can adjust max boost at the turbo waste gate. I believe stock is 18-20 psi most turn up to 30 psi.

Make sure return fuel valve is working right also lift pump.
Check and replace return fuel line/ supply line(rubber part) if they have not been replaced already.
I'm sure some hard core Bombers will be responding and can give you more details on how to do the above.

Jerry,

How's it been? I haven't talked to you in a while. I assume that 7. 3IDI is running better than ever? Did you ever upgrade to a crewcab?

I know your mechanical skills, and there is a ton of stuff you can do to get more power from a '95 cummins. I'm surprised more people haven't chimed in with help.

The first step is to slid the camplate all the way forward and disconnect the wastegate line.

You can search the archives for the details or email me for particulars.

If the truck is a 5-speed, I would recommend turning the high idle screw all the way in.
If it is an automatic don't mess with that screw.

Adjust the starwheel like M. mule mentioned above, and that should put a smile on his face and give you a good run for your money. #ad

He should have at least a pyro. If not or if you can't trust him to watch it, I wouldn't go much further.

Good luck,
Chris

Thanks everyone for the replys. Strick-9, the 7. 3L is running great and i still have the supercab. I have an open element air filter design that I'm planning to build for it soon (summer) It will use a cowl induction hood so when the hood is closed it will only get cool air from above the hood without sucking hot engine air. I doubt it will do much for the performance but it will make filter servicing easier and it will look cool!
I'll search the archives (now that I know what key words to search for!) If I have questions, I'll e-mail 'ya.
Thanks again for the info!
Jerry
