Going to the dealer tomorrow for the rollover vent recall. What's the specific name of the program/option to have the dealer enable power on after the key has been turned off? We have this option on the minivan which is convenient. I've heard it mentioned here before. I know when I goto the dealer I'll be talking with a counter person who knows less than I do. The actual mechanic is busy working.

I have this on an 05 Jeep... . with the key off, everything that was on, stereo etc stays working when you turn the key off and than shuts down when the door is opened...

So you can stop, continue to listen to the music and than open the door and everything shuts down..... it is a nice feature. .

Your best bet is to get them to let you look over the techs shoulder and choose the settings you want. The menu on the starscan has a pretty good size list you can pick from.

It's called retained accessory power. Usually you either have it on a vehicle or not. I would be very (plesently) surprised is it was available as an option to switch on. Please be sure to post back with your results.

Thanks

It's been activated. Stereo and windows now work when the key is turned off. Bad news is it cost half hour of labor.

Is there a way to get the stereo to work with the doors open, without the chime-alarm continually ringing? There are times when I'm working around the outside of the truck that I'd like to be able to listen to the radio. ??

More info on this topic:

I have an 06 QC short bed w/ the 5. 9L SLT and that was NOT an option to be turned on by the mechanic at my dealership for my truck build according to my mechanic. According to him there are different "builds" of our same year trucks and they have different "options" that can be turned on from the star scanner. Such as the high idle option and day time running lights - both of which I DID have turned on. Just ask your mechanic about your specific truck is the best advice I can give.

I've been thinking about this. The radio actually has two power feeds, one switched and one unswitched.

You could wire from a constant hot, through a small switch, and tap into the switched input wire. That should allow you to flip the switch to power the radio without having the key in the ignition switch.

Opinions?

Might work for 05' and below. Not sure I'd try this with 06' and above. The stereo talks with the main computer using Canbus. Could throw a fault code.

Even removing the factory radio will trip a code:-laf

The radio is considered another module on the bus,we have had flashes for the radios just like the other modules. Be very careful with these Can bus vehicles
