my 12 volt power outlet, at the back of the center console decided to quit. . all other outlets on the circuit work fine.

i was told by parts person at a dealership, that the plug going bad was a common problem.

i had my plug give out on me sometime during a 110 degree day with a powered cooler connected. it's a good thing i had extra water in the cooler to help maintain cool temps.

the reason for posting, is that if i was to be carrying medical supplies that required to be kept cool. they would of gone bad. with a issue of trying to obtain the meds, while on the road. . i'm a bit more concerned about things like this, since my cousins 7 yr old has to have insulin shots...

The outlet in my '04. 5 went bad, checked fuses and wires, everything good, had power to the back of the plug but nothing at the plug. Removed plug to see it had gotten too hot and melted plastic which separated connection. Ordered new plug from Dodge which is built differently, presumably to eliminate the problem. Plug has worked fine since then, even on hot days while being used.

Godspeed,
Trent

I have an Engle cooler in my truck... . use it all the time we're on the road... I wouldn't leave home without it... its fused at 10 amps and I've not had problems with it in either of the two outlets on the truck... Just thought I'd share my experience...

the plug has been in use, off and on since the truck was new, over 4 years of use.
so i'm not complaining, as things do wear out… it's inexpensive to fix as well.
just wanted to let users know that that plug has been reported to go bad.
as told to me by the service dept. of a dealership i stop by on a regular basis. .
that plug is handy for using my coleman cooler with. and does shut off with the truck (timer until a door is opened).
as i made the mistake of using a non-switched plug once and left the cooler plugged in for a couple days. while working on a family members house. to find both truck batteries dead and they wouldn't hold a charge. so i had to replace both of the trucks batteries for that mistake. .
