I am considering getting a Power Pup downloader. I was wondering if I need to take the boost elbo off my 04 not 04. 5 Cummins? Why do they not supply a boost elbo with the downloader?

As far as i know a boost elbow is only supplied with a boost gauge... someone please correct me if i 'm wrong. As far as the outlook monitor goes, it has to have a way to read boost so it may come with an elbow. My downloader came with nothing more than a storage case and plug-in for the unit.

are you referring to the elbow that limits the air going to the Wastgate and makes it open later resulting in more boost??

Same here. Except the storage case is black, red, white, says Bullydog on it, and is made of cardboard. :D No boost elbow. I don't think you need one.

you do not need the elbow it has an orphis inside to hold wastegate closed longer so does not open,i have bddl on my 05 6 speed on performance and runs great hits about 35 lbs of boost and smokes pretty good and i have bully dog 5inch cat back

Sorry I did not explain better my situation. I have and Edge EZ. It came with a "boost elbo" Small brass 90 deg. elbo with a small hole in it. I am guessing that less air flows through it and "fools" the wastegate so it dose not open as early. Do I need to remove it before I install the Power Pup? Or will the extra boost be better for HP?

No, I am not going to stack the two boxes. But, would it not be better to have a little more boost cooling down the egt's?

I don't know about the 04. 5, but I can tell you from experience on my 04, the EGT's stay cool enough, without a boost elbow. As an experiment when I first got the downloader, (even though the programming wasn't right at the time), when I put it on the dyno, we plugged the wastegate to see what would happen. There was absolutely no change in EGT's or power, even though the boost was up a few pounds. From what I understand, the stock turbo's on these trucks start getting out of their efficiency range beyond about 30-35 lbs. I'm sure BullyDog took this into account when doing the programming, and that's why they don't require a boost elbow.

Jim

You'll be risking a blown turbo if you run the Bully Dog with a boost elbow! Without an elbow, i used to see 42lbs on extreme mode. If you add an elbow and close up the waste gate even more, you are really going to get some serious boost and the gain won't be anything that will make much difference. Not worth the risk IMHO.
