My Power steering booster is leaking and I searched the forums to see which way to go for a replacement. Most of the post are pretty old and just wanted to know what some of you have come up with as far as kits, reman or new. Have a long trip planned next week so I need to get this taken care of.

If you buy a reman be sure to get one with a lifetime warranty. I had several fail in less than 100k miles before I finally got smart and bought a new OEM. It has lasted close to 300k miles. Saginaw pumps have been installed on cars for decades. I have one on my '67 Chev. As a result you never know what the reman you buy was built for since there were dozens of pressure port orifice sizes and spring rates combos made.

Yes I think it is called the hydroboost that is between the break master cylinder and firewall. Checking around the remanufactured one is around $200 and the dealer wants $820. There are two different versions for the 2001 I assume because in midyear Dodge went from drums on the rear to disks. From what I understand there is a difference in the length of the rod going to the master cylinder. Now it's about how much money can I afford to spend. Will do some research on the brand of the reman and go from there.

Well, I went with a remanufactured unit. Called the dealer with my vin # and they gave me the OEM part # for my truck. Bought the rebuilt unit from a local parts store that tried to cross reference the number. Of course when the shop changed it out it was the wrong one. The shaft was too long so the breaks were grabbing without using any peddle. They ended up just swapping the front shaft so the whole unit didn't have to be taken out again. Went on our trip to Utah and all seemed to work ok except a couple mornings when I got up the break lights had come on sometime during the night. Have not gotten around to checking that out yet.
