Bummer! Drove truck yesterday after the wash & wax and heard "funny" noise! Checked the power steering this morning and it was low! Added fluid and drove it to the grocery store. Came out to find spot on the ground underneath the box & box with drip on it!:(

So now I am faced with taking the truck to the dealership for repair

Our local dealer has horrible service and both MediCummin and I live in fear of the place( Crown Dodge). Does anyone have a better luck in the S. Cal area, near Ventura?

I had a simialr problem and it progressively got worse. I posted a question here and got several responses. The one that got my fix was the plate on top of the steering gear box was loose. 3 of the 4 bolts holding it on were finger loose. I tightened it up and no more leak been about 3000 miles since the fix. Seems this has happened to more than a few people. Can't remember the bolt size but you will need a very long extension or several shorter together to get from it above and a swivel on the end will be helpful too. I couldn't hardly get my hand and a box end or crescent wrench up there from the bottom. Hope this helps.

Similar thing just happened to me last week. Steering box started

leaking (alot) on Monday, called dealer and made an appointment. Soonest he could get me in was the following Mon. Couldn't keep fluid in there by Tues. pm. , called dealer, said, "Bring it in. " Thurs. got a call from dealer, said,"Truck's done. Never seen anything like it, it 'imploded' from the inside out. " They replaced it, replaced the 'clockspring'(recall), did a diagnostics on the engine(my request) all under warranty. Very painless. :DThe dealer is Joliet Dodge in Joliet,Il. Talk to Mitch. Very professional. The shop floor is so clean you could eat off it! :) ~~Jim.

PS- The box was a Delphi.

mine just started dripping last week on my 01. 5. seems like it leaked most on cold engine starts. 3 of the 4 bolts on the steering gear were loose. i also saw fluid dripping up under the pump and at the braided line which was loose also. just curious,,does the lines from the pump to the brake bolster get real warm after your engine has been run for a while?? mine get very warm.

Thanks Everyone!

I must say it's REALLY :D :D Nice having people that have shared similar problems. I just went outside to back the truck up on the pad to check the bolts on the box and fluid puked out big time!

Sure enough 3 of the 4 bolts were loose... . :( Thank you Dodge :(

Tighten them up added fluid problem solved.

I can just imagine my wife stuck on the side of the road with no power steering or brakes and me 70 miles away at work.

Thanks again for your great response!:D

Lucas Power Steering Stop Leak

Lucas Oil makes a power steering fluid with a stop leak that is guaranteed to stop any steering leak period! I had a steering groan and flushed out all the factory fill and put in the Lucas and it made such a difference in the steering. Took some and put it in granddad's old caddy which was losing more than we could put back in and it solved that one too!

I sincerely can say that at least half of the people that I know personally (not my customers) have had a box replaced under warranty. C'mon engineers... . let's step up to the plate here!
