Hello everyone. I do not know if other MY 2 Gen diesel Rams have this OEM part on, but my does not. A friend of mine told me the 2001/2002 v10 gas 2500 Ram had it, so I saw it's available from Dodge, for the gas model though. How hard is it to install it on my MY truck? Dodge part number: 52110311 AA. Also I can not see where is installed on the truck. I'm sure it will be good for the fluid in the hot weather especially and in slow/ traffic driving. I can't figure out why was not needed for the diesel. Even my friend's small 2004 Sprinter2500 van has a power steering cooler a fuel cooler on the return line:confused:

If it's an easy install I'll go for it, as well as the Sport lights conversion I'm ordering in the next few days.

Bob 4x4, please let me know if this will work on my truck. Also is any other parts needed?

Thanks!

Ilian

On my 2001 HO 6spd with 4. 10 gears, I had problems with the power steering heating up during extended highway driving. I bought a small (5x11) tube and fin cooler from the local parts store along with six feet or so of transmission hose. I installed the cooler onto the front of the intercooler beside the condenser (right where the trans cooler would be if it were an auto trans) using the supplied foam pads and plastic ties. I routed the return line from the steering box under the core support, through the cooler, and back to the power steering pump. I did sleeve the hoses with nylon mesh to prevent chafing. I never had any more trouble and it was a cheap upgrade.
I haven't seen the factory cooler setup used on V10 trucks, but if you could find one in a junkyard and get the whole setup, it might bolt right on. If it did, that would be great. I've done multiple trucks using the re-purposed trans cooler and it seems to work great. I've also found that if you run any sort hi-po steering pump, it's pretty much a must have... especially if your truck has lower gears.

That's good to know BDaugherty. It seems the power steering hoses get pretty hot. Thank you.
If I can use the v10 cooler, I'm guessing it's made to be bolted right up somewhere in the front securely and hopefully the hose it comes with is made to easily connect to our steering box. If anyone has tried this - is it a straight fit?

I installed an oem cooler from a gasser. Quick and easy to install in the oem location if I remember correctly its been years. It mounts behind the front crossmember under the radiator. Not the best for airflow but very safe. Just buy enough return hose to plumb it in series with the existing return
