I have an 03 3500 4WD with a leaking power steering issue. I have been told the lines are good, the pump is dry but it appears to be from the PS gear box. 1. Has anyone had an issue with a PS Gear Box? 2. Is it hard to replace yourself? Quoted $600. 00 to do the job. :{ Thanks need help fast.

Chris

I replaced one on my 03 a while ago, but I dont remember it being very difficult. There was an issue with the pully though; I remember having to buy a little special puller to remove the old pully and reinstall it. I have been told that this pulley r@r procedure does not have to be done on some brands and that I should have looked around for a different brand, anyhow $600 sounds awfully high to me, but without knowing the exact price of the pump I can not say for sure. hope this helps.

Edit; I should have read your post more carefully I thought it said PS pump when I wrote my reply, sorry.

Chris,

Had my 04' steering box replaced under warranty for leaking. The whole box was wet. Technician looked at it one day for me and said the whole box needed to be replaced. This was the only warranty item on my truck to go bad. Not sure how they get the damn thing off? Or cost?
