My gear box has been running out of the splined shaft that connects to the borgeson for too long now. Its time to fix it.

Question is am I better to swap out the entire unit or just fix the seal?

If just the seal, is the end not crimped on with a steel flare or something? Its hard to tell with all the crud on mine. :-laf

Thanks!

I don't know about the seal lasting 120000. I have replaced them at 180 thousand and the leak stopped. If you have ever changed the u??? joint and tried to drive out the pin, the lateral stress will cause the seal to leak. They are easy to change but get one from Dodge. I have tried will fits from the parts store and they are a little different diameter and will not seat easily. The little kit comes with a new snap ring etc. Good luck.

Very possible as I replaced the factory shaft with a borgeson at around the time is started leaking. Hmm. Bet that was it.

Oh well. Ordered a new box today so I guess I will get a fresh one.

That's exactly how I know about driving out the pin. When I put my Borgeson on---immediate leak. The next time I took the steering shaft off, I placed a bar behind the shaft to take up the slop and give something to support the fitting. No problems then. Same thing with a new box. Good luck.
