I know that one of the weak systems in our trucks is the steering. I recently purchased my truck with about 115K mi on it. I purchased it knowing that it needs a new steering pump and gear.

Other then the Bugeson joint/shaft upgrade, can anyone recommend what gear/pump to go with? Has anyone mounted any gear other then stock? I'm afraid that this will just be a temporary solution until the seals go again. Anyone installed an AGR or a Chevy (gasp) unit??

Thanks for any help. I look forward to your responses.

I have replaced my steering box a few times due to bad rebuilds. The shaft was a bid improvement but I would coat the telescoping part of the shaft with anti-seeze as mine is locked into place from a few Boston winters. I don't know of any improved boxes but I would get one with a lifetime warranty. I'm on my 5th. The last one had something break internally so there was about 1/2 a turn of play in the wheel. I believe the worst part of the steering is the shaft to the box. Good luck.

Check out www.agrperformance.com. This company seems to be the choice for steering system components among the off road folks.

I have never used their products, but if I ever do need any steering components I will surely be checking their line. They sell through such mail order houses as Summit Racing, but I don't know about direct sales.

Hope this helps!
