On my son's 92 CTD (my old truck) last week when it was -15F...

. the power steering fluid puked on the ground after a cold start and the truck was hard to steer.

He came by the house today. We refilled the pump and nothing leaked and it worked fine. The temp today is 20F and the truck was warmed up.

Could it have been a cold seal that let go and then sealed up again when it got warmer? Any ideas? Thanks

Truck has 149k+ miles. Oo.

Steering Box Leak

Most Dodge trucks end up having a leaky steering box sooner or later:eek:. Look for leaks around the input shaft, this is the most common place for leaks, also if the box is worn a fair bit, it will leak from the output shaft as well. Sometimes it will only be a small seepage, would only require topping up every few months. Other times it will pour out, then you are in trouble, it will use a quart for every tank of fuel. Just monitor the amount of fluid used, if it doesn't use any for a while you should be ok. Funny thing is that every time my box started to leak it was duing the summer, mine was replaced 3 times under warranty, they would only last about a year and start leaking badly. Also strange that the last one is 8 years old and never given any problems, not a drip so far.
