4BT Questions

I've got a brand new diaphram-type vacuum pump and mated power steering pump for a 4BT conversion that I'm doing. I don't need the vac pump and it's an interference in my engine bay, so I'm looking to just replace it with a straight saginaw p series pump, gear driven off the timing case just like the vac pump. Most of the bread vans etc. that had 4BT's had this as an option, but my engine is factory new and didn't come with the P/S pump.

Does ANYONE know what the part number is or where I can get a drive gear with adapter bushing for a saginaw power steering pump, like was in the vans? I already have a source for the adapter plate / bracket for the saginaw pump itself.

I called several entities from Cummins over the last few days and they all have no idea... none of their 4BT info has this part. They all insist that it was an OEM part from whatever company built whatever truck. Fine... that number would work too!

So nobody seems to really know anything about this pump... which surprises me on TDR! Should I be left to believe that I'm not going to have any luck tracking down a P/N for this thing? I've made a few more calls but no luck... definitely frustrating.

if you can get me an engine serial number from one of those bread trucks, I can use the Cummins part catalog to get the gear part number.

Joe, how about trying 48103220. It is a recon serial number, but it was in a bread truck with a saginaw gear drive pump. The problem seems to be that it may not be a cummins part, but a proprietary GM or Grumman or whatever part from whoever put together the bread vans.

Nope... this gear is a press fit from what I understand, with an aluminum adapter collar between the power steering input shaft (which is not splined) and the gear itself. I'll check out that number anyway though, thanks.

The number doesn't come up on my version. Check your Cummins distributor; their catalog is newer. They go by engine serial number to access all parts.
