2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Power steering pump is leaking but...

don't know where yet. What leaks on these and are they repairable? Also if I'm working on this should I replace the seal between the 2 pumps (vacuum)?

One place they will leak is where the pump fits into the reservoir. There is an O-ring that goes bad. If you look at the forward face of the assy you can make out which is the pump and which is the reservoir. Hi-Lo/O'Reilly's, and others, sell a Saginaw pump repair kit that includes all the o-rings. You have to remove the pump to do the repair so replacing the seal on the vacuum pump at the same time is a good idea. They run about $11 from Cummins.

Power steering leak!

Before you replace anything try this. Go to Wal-Mart and get Lucas Oil Power Steering Stop Leak. White bottle, blue and red print think it is about $6. 00 dollars. I had a leaking seal on my race car steering box after last winters sitting and put a bottle in and it fixed it in 5 minutes. The pump does have reduction in pulleys but I turn the motor over 8 thousand RPMS all night and it didn't leak all year. Its worth the try. Good Luck!

I haven't looked at the long range forecast, but today it was 75 and sunny here. I'll go out on a limb and promise the weather here will be better than the weather in WI.

Can you see were it is leaking at? If it is getting the steering shaft wet up by the fire wall then the seal between the Hydro-Booster and the Brake master Cylinder if shot and the O-ring between them is bad. (I Hope not) Mine was. If so you need to replace both of them as the O-Ring is not available separate. If it is just the Pump then yes it is a good idea to reseal the Vacuum Pump as taking them out as a unit is the easiest way to go. Good Luck Harry

Do you have the part # for the vacuum seal or should I get the GOULD GEAR seal set?

I've posted it several times. I've used the one I had in the garage but you should be able to find the number with a search.

I used the Gould kit (fixin Rams.com) and it worked great and I tabbed the KDP at the time and both worked great. Pete Goulds kit worked and came with two sets of seals and tools, I thought it was worth the price of the kit and the instructions were very easy.
