While changing water pump this morning my power steering pump began to leak when I took the belt tension off. I checked the play in the pulley but couldn't really feel any. When I put the belt back on the leak quit. I guess this means it has to have some play but I sure couldn't find it. It has always seeped some from the cap but never enough to have to add any fluid. Truck is an 03 with 210k. Anybody else have this happen and do I need to go ahead and replace pump don't really want to spend 1200-1500 to replace if it isn't really bad or going to leave me stranded.

I put a new pump on mine a few years back. I bought a reconditioned one at one of our local parts stores - $139. 00 my cost. After I installed it, it leaked a little, but then quit leaking after a while. Been fine for years now.

thought mine was leaking from shaft or cap also, turned out to be the tank o-ring seals seeping, I replace them every once in a while. .

never gave it much thought but mine is a 4x2 with R&P so I'm assuming they use the same pump on the 4x4 w gear box...

My 03 leaked from the fill cap and the steering box leaked from the top of the box. changed fluid(atf+4)and both leaks stopped. Don't know why,but the fluid probably had a lot of moisture in it.
