Can anybody tell me if the power steering pump on a 1991 truck is located in the same place as the 2nd Generation 12 valve "B" engine? Is it shaft driven off the timing case? I know the earlier trucks had vacuum power brake boosters. My friend was asking me. I figured the pump would be in the same place as mine, but with the vacuum brake booster instead of the hydraulic brake booster. Thanks, -Glen

Glen,

The PS pump is on the drivers side, below the injector pump. It is attached to the vacuum pump which is closest to the radiator.

It has its own reservoir cap with "Power Steering" label on top.

The two pumps are connected by a "hard coupling". Poor health in the vacuum pump can 'cack out' a PS pump pretty quick. (My brother has gone thru 8 PS pumps due, in the end, to a bad vacuum pump.

I believe the vacuum pump is gear driven, which in turn drives the PS pump.

I'm not sure about the 2nd Gen pump location, but I THINK its the same general place.

Be careful if you're working with that thing its pricey and touchy. (based on personal experience)

Hope that helps.

Bob.

Thanks for the info

Bob, Thanks for the info. Sounds like the same thing as my truck. I realize that the vacuum pump is attached to the power steering pump. Thanks again, -Glen
