Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) power steering pump spring

Ive taken my power steering pump apart twice now to clean the little screen on the flow valve. This is what i found both times, first time screen was dirty and large spring was only about 1&3/4 in so i stretched it out to about 2&1/4,lasted about a month, second time screen was clean but large spring was back to 1&3/4 in i stretched out to 2&1/2 and its great again is this normal and is the large spring something i could buy alone or in a kit with out a new pump. Thankx

shim it with a small washer... start thin and work your way up.

How could i shim it 3/4 of an in.

run a nut under it and a washer that fits the bore right it if you want it shimmed up
