Few questions about power steering pumps on my 2003 with 270,000 miles.

1) Pump works as it is supposed to but it leaks around the reservoir. I know any O-ring will fix this and I tried to replace the o-ring but the pulley is in the way of the bottom bolt. So my question is since I have to remove the pump to get the pulley off to remove the bolt to replace the O-ring would I not be better to replace the whole assembly.

2) If I don't replace the whole assembly how successful are people in reusing the pulley. I know manual says to replace when it is removed.

3) Where is best place to buy OEM pump, pulley and reservoir. Also do I buy kit or all three parts individually. Any reason to replace the lines while I am in there. Truck hasn't seen salt so every thing underneath is clean minus the power steering fluid.

Thanks for any any all advice. I also have an oil cooler that is leaking water but I will save that for another project and post.
 
Most pumps do not come with new pulleys and the original one is reused, I have not had any issues reusing the pulley as long as the right tool was used. The pump, reservoir bracket and reservoir are sold individually but if yours is still working good I would just replace the O ring. A new upgraded pump from the dealer is about $700 and I dont know if you can still get the original smaller pump.
 
Personally, seeing as it's working fine, I'd disassemble, clean reservoir filter, replace the o-ring, and reassemble, checking the wear depth in the pulley grooves..... A new pump is only available from select places, and a good aftermarket is almost non-existant, save a few high performance offerings, such as AGR Performance out of Fort Worth. I recommend them from previous experience. (www.steerco.com Their replacement pumps run around $200 bare.... not sure on whole assembly price, but I'm sure a phone call would tell you....)
 
Ok another question. Are the new larger pumps the same as what is on the current 6.7 as I have access to several of them with low milage on them. Just wondering if can swap it out.
 
I've found used units on low mileage 6.7 trucks when I considered updating my pump. Many I found on car-part.com did not have high miles, I just don't recall the year models now which were compatible. Seems the new pump has more pressure capability, but I am not sure if the pump body is aluminum or cast iron. I've worked in hydraulic design engineering for 30+ years and no one will ever find me with an aluminum bodied pump.
 
I just replaced mine. I tried buying an after market with no success on finding a pulley to fit the pump, even though the pulley said it was the same size. The parts dealer even said that they have run into this before. The factory dodge will run about $800. I bought mine at
http://www.alldodgetruckpartsncal.com/. They are used factory dodge parts. and the pump comes with the pulley.
 
rotate the pulley there are openings the bolt will come out through

Bob I couldn't get the bottom bolt broke loose bolt seemed to be right in line with just inside the pulley and nothing would fit in the torx head straight on enough to break it loose. I am open to any and all tricks of the trade or even tool recommendations.
 
I have an aftermarket pump on mine and it came with the pulley. It is leaking again and needs replacing / repairing but that is for another day.
