The IDI 7. 3L motors were never called Powerstrokes. That name only came along in mid 94, with the introduction of the Direct Injection, turbo'd 7. 3L. In 1994, 3 diesels were available in the Ford trucks. A 7. 3L non turbo, a 7. 3L IDI turbocharged motor, and the Powerstroke 7. 3 DI motor. The 7. 3L IDI turbo motor was actually only rated for 5 more hp then the non turbo motor, and Ford advertised that it was a better motor at higher altitudes. The reasoning for this was so that the 7. 3 IDI turbo wouldnt take any thunder away from the soon to be release of the Powerstroke.
