A have a couple questions on the power tow mirrors.

1. Are the tow mirrors on the 2nd generation trucks the same as the 3rd generation power tow mirrors.

2. Do all of the power tow mirrors also have the heaters.

I ask because I appearantly haven't learned to back out of my garage as I crunched my passenger mirror last week and have been look on ebay for a cheap replacement.

The housing is ok, but the mirror is broke and tilt mechanism is loose on the vertical axis.

Any suggestion will be appreciated. I wandered if I could take two and make one mirror out it.

I am blown away that nobody here could answer my questions about the the power tow mirrors. I will bump this back up to the top once more hoping that some fresh eyes may be able to answer these for me.

the tow mirrors on the 2nd gen are manuel not powered. there is a company that makes just replacement glass for all kind of cars and trucks. i saw it once on line but don't remember the web site. try a google search for vehicle mirror replacement glass. hope this helps.

i just did a online search and found this web -- email address removed -- hope ths helps.

Automotive Side View Mirror Glass Replacement

Also learned that Mopar has a mirror kit that contains both power/fold-out/heated mirrors for the third gen all in it for a little over $200. 00 last time that I checked. A single replacement mirror by part number is over $300. 00!!! Showed that to my dealer and now he stocks just the kits. You might be able to get the kit and then peddle the left over drivers side unit on e-bay. It looks like just the replacement glass for regular and convex will be $150. 00. Just a thought.

Mike.

Thanks for the help guys none of my local salvage yards had a mirror. The replacement glass part would work but i don't think i can repair the electric motor mount the center pivot section broke off. I was hoping someone knew of a kit that i could replace the guts with that was cheaper than a whole assembley. Thanks for the info on the 2gen mirrors hbarlow i had seen a couple of those at the salvage yard and wondered if could use any of their guts but don't guess that will work since they aren't power.

Pardon the all caps am at work and that is all are software uses

I would like to get that Mopar Number from you. I have been looking for a set of these mirrors for my "new to me" 04. 5. I have to be honest, I'm doubting that a set of Mopar mirrors will be ~$200. But, I will hold judgement :D. Thanks in advance.

Just checked dodgeparts.com and found the following

Manual Tow Mirror Kit 260. 00

Power Tow Mirror Kit 342. 00

Now as I think this over it was in '06 that we learned about the kit. I had just purchased my truck and a customer had destroyed his right hand mirror that day when he smacked it into the shop door opening. We all had a fit about the price of a single mirror and found the kit. It does not seem like '06 was 3 years ago but it was... ..... Time flies and prices go up.

It is too late for me to call my dealer for the better price but I will first thing in the morning and post the latest best price and part number. I apologize if I gave bad info, didn't mean to. :{

Had it somewhat right, see below

Manual Tow Mirror Kit No Heat or Power (Contains a pair of mirrors)

82207297

Power Tow Mirror Kit W/Heat and Power (Contains a pair of mirrors)

82207298

List $385. 00 Repair Shop Price $308. 00

Kit has gone up since '06 but still a far better deal than a single mirror.

All will depend on what kind of relationship you have with the dealer as far as pricing, should be able to get that deal in these tight times.

Hope this helps and sorry for the incorrect price in my previous post.

So, the 82207298 - Power Tow Mirror Kit includes 2 complete mirror assemblies (1-Driver, 1-Passanger)? That honestly looks like a great deal when compared with the cheap-o aftermarket offerings on eBay.

When you say "Repair Shop Price" what do you mean? Do you operate a body shop and that is the price they give you when purchasing?

Thanks!

The better price in my case happened when I set up charge accounts for our dealership with 2 mopar dealers in my area. I suspect that if an individual set up a charge account with a dealer and kept the account in good standing that the same would apply. I probably should have called it something different than "Repair Shop", maybe should have used the word Trade or Jobber Price.

I would never would let anyone other than the members of the TDR have that information and I figured that it would let someone know if they were getting a decent deal or not. The dealers do have a little room to negotiate if they want to. Cash works well too as they don't have to pay a merchant fee to the credit card companys for the transaction. Can be as high as 5% for Amex for example.

I have found the OEM parts dealers (including us) to have much more competitive pricing in the last several years and also offer the latest improvements to the replacement parts (except for Mopar Ball Joints!). The trick is finding someone to expend the effort required in the parts department to figure things out like this mirror kit, I had to make them check it out back in '06 before they believed me. It is a constant effort but pays off.

Apparently I don't have a very good relationship with my dealer, or they are mad they got cut as a Dodge dealership. When I called yesterday, they wanted $473 + tax for the Single RH Tow Mirror Power Heated (55077444A0) and $120 + tax to install it. Ouch!

Get pricing for the kit with the pair of mirrors in it, part number is above. Might save you some money.

I found on Ebay a couple of dealers selling mirrors and I contacted them and they told me they would by the kit when they had a truck needing a mirror in the shop and then sell the other mirror off on ebay. Worked well for them. I don't remember what the dealer's name was but I ended up giving $175 for the mirror plus shipping.
