What are you Towing and Hauling?

Biggest TT

I'm interested in getting rid of my Portable Towing Mirrors (Wheel Masters Eagle Vision) and installing Power Towing Mirrors. I checked at my local Dodge dealer today. Purchase and installation is around $500. I hate to spend that kind of money, but I get tired of mounting and adjusting my portable mirrors all the time. They do work great however. Any ideas/advice/input would be appreciated.

If you are talking about the new Flip Up style towing mirrors, they aren't power. You would still need to adjust them by hand. You might factor this into your decision before you buy them.

No. The price I was quoted was for "Power Mirrors". They would replace my existing stock power mirrors. They would extent out. retract and adjust from inside the cab.

I just went through this quandry. I ordered my truck with the stock power, heated mirrors instead of the flip-up tow mirrors. I just bought a 27' travel trailer, so now I need tow mirrors. I don't like any of the strap on tow mirrors. I don't like the price of the power tow mirrors, and I wasn't too crazy about the looks of the Magnas or Power Visions anyway - just my personal taste. I finally decided I really liked the looks of the factory flip-up tow mirrors the best. So they're on the way, and I'll switch them. I decided I can live without power mirrors. It's too bad I was too boneheaded to order them with the truck in the first place - I would have saved $250. #ad

Fireman, No way can I live without power mirrors. I'm just a big spoiled brat. I'm not familiar with the flip out mirrors, but if they're not power, forget it. I really like the strap-on mirrors, but they are a real pain. Best of luck to you.

Bigmike, Sounds like your dealer is selling Powervision mirrors, we have a set on our '97 and love em. Power in and out and power adjust. Got ours for $325 last year and installed them myself. And they are made in Pendelton! #ad

Bob, Sounds like the one's. Price sounds about right plus installation. I think I'll have them do it for me. I tend to screw things up when I try it myself. Thanks for the info.

Camping World sells them and if you cant install them yourself Im sure they will be cheaper than a dealer. They are simple to install. Also Id recommend getting new door panel clips as they do not hold as tight when reused. Powervision makes a great product and they stand behind them as well

I've been refering to the flip up mirrors as "Dumbo" mirrors. Maybe "Flying Nun" is a better description?!? #ad

Conlyjo:
I assume that they look better with a 5th wheel behind the truck. Do you find the need to adjust the mirrors very much? I assume with so much surface area that visability should be quite good without needing to readjust. Also, do you need to readjust them when folding them in or out? I hope to get my new truck before this weekend. I'll be able to answer my own questions after that.

Conleyjoe, Your mirrors look real nice. Do they extend in and out. Can a dumby like me install them? Where did you buy them?

Appreciate everyoness input on this issue. Now I'm really screwed up!! Just Kidding.

Klenger The visibility is great! they have a built in convex mirror in one corner that helps a great deal. They do need adjusted whenever they are folded in or out. Other than that, I havent touched them in months. The best part is they dont vibrate. Be careful when adjusting them. Push on the mirror at least one inch from the edge. I saw one that had a broken corner where the owner pushed a little to hard on the outside edge.

Big Mike. No, they dont extend in or out, but when they fold down, they dont stick out as far. These are factory mirrors that I purchased from a local Dodge dealer as a kit. I think I paid something around $230. 00 The box included all the hardware, and mounting brackets. I installed them myself, but it would be a lot easier if a second pair of hands could support the mirror when you are trying to get mounting plate on. There is really nothing to it. Here is a picture of the mirrors folded down to give you an idea of how far they stick out in the folded postition.

Here is the mounting bracket that comes with the mirror to provide extra support.

Hey Conleyjo,

Those look just like the ones that arrived by UPS to me twice in the past week - except both times they arrived with broken glass. #ad

Now I'm scrambling to get my hands on an unbroken pair. I guess they're on back order. #ad

I was going to leave this one alone but I just had to step in. Bob V. is absolutely right; the Powervision Mirrors are superb. Being able to adjust them remotely negates about any objection to them that I can think of and, when you've just got to know where something behind you is, getting out to adjust them at anything over being at a dead stop is simply not a viable option.
